What begins as a hook up becomes more. Harry sticks around to help his father in The Puffin Diner, since Greg is on his honeymoon, and to help Becky with the brewery for a few days after she's injured. To Harry, the Judge (as everyone including his son calls him) has always been cold and undemonstrative. He's even allowed the local gift shop to print tee shirts of his late wife's paintings, turning Harry's mother's gift into a profit-making novelty item. Vegas never looked so good, and he can't wait to shake the dust of Eagle Cove off his feet.
Beginning the book with a wedding and ending with a new promise seems to be the framework of this new series. But in between M.L. Buchman draws us into the rhythm of Eagle Cove. The Puffin Diner opens at 6 and closes at 10. No exceptions. Cal Jr from the bakery is in his place at the counter for his stack of pancakes at 6 sharp. The Puffin, now rated the best restaurant in Oregon, is open for two seatings on Friday and Saturday nights. The ladies meet for knitting on Tuesday afternoons and Friday evenings. Even the inevitable (and interminable?) rain becomes a character in the book. But the real story is the dreams of the residents. Dreams lost, dreams found, dreams chased.
No violence (except fistfights between brothers), moderate sex (described in some detail, but relevant to the plot), no drugs.
She falls and hurts herself and needs help with her brewery!
He survives helping his father with the diner, making beer and making the brewer feel very, very good!
