His father, Daniel St Claire, had made his fortune through TV movies and broadcasting.
Daniel was widowed (his wife died of cancer) and decided to leave NY and move to the family mansion in Marietta, Montana, his wife's favorite place and where she spent her last days.
That's exactly why Wes didn't like it very much. He had bad memories.
But besides his father, his brother Mike, also a widower, decided to go to Marietta because it was a smaller town and where no one knew his deceased wife, and they didn't look at him with pity.
He had a 5-year-old daughter, Annalise, who was the world to him.
Wes went to visit his family and ended up stuck in town longer than he had expected when his father signed him up to attend an auction calling Bachelor Bake-Off.
Despite being forced to participate in this contest, Wes took the opportunity to approach Noelle Olsen, the ballet teacher of the city's studio.
When they met at Grey's Saloon, they said good-bye without even knowing each other's name, but when he went to take his niece to dance class, he met the beautiful woman who enchanted him.
Noelle ends up being Wes's cooking teacher. He would have to go through three stages in the auction: cookies, pie and cake.
While cooking classes take place, the couple get to know each other better.
He discovers that she had a beautiful career as a dancer until a car accident, which took the life of her parents, made her break the femur and dislocate her hip, which made it impossible for her to pursue a professional career.
But she was happy teaching, and Annalise was one of her most devoted students.
Although Wes came from one of the wealthiest families in the country, Noelle's attraction to him was not that level. She was an independent woman who could lose her studio if a certain film producer bought the buildings in the area and decided to change the plans of the Marietta residents.
Being the second book in the series that I read, what fascinated me in the author's narrative is that even though she has a millionaire as the main character (and let's face it, stories with millionaires make it all easier), the plot is as close to the truth as possible, with normal emotional dilemmas to any human being.
And different from the current books, there is no sex scene, it is the story that binds you. Great change of scenery.
A Recipe for Romance is a wonderful romantic story. Wes is a handsome man. He's good at making business deals, but he also has a kind heart. Noelle is a talented dancer. After a terrible accident she had to give up her professional career. She loves being a teacher and can still make a living from her passion. I admired her strength. They both get a little help from Annalise. She is such a cute little girl and reading about her put a big smile on my face. I love stories about true love and this one is even more special because it gets plenty of help from an adorable angelic girl.
Marietta is a lovely small town. It's the perfect setting for a romantic story. Lara Van Hulzen writes about an incredibly wealthy family and it was fun to see the town through their eyes. The St. Claires have been through a lot and they use their money for good things, which makes them quite likable. I kept hoping the members would all find happiness again eventually. I loved A Recipe for Romance, it's a fun and sweet story.
All of the characters were lovable. Wes was amazing, so down to earth and as normal as can be expected for someone who has a driver and someone to cook for him. It was interesting watching him learn how to bake, considering he has never even been grocery shopping before.
I was torn between rushing to the end to see a happy ending, and wanting the story to last forever.
