But, I decided to give it a try. I work at home, so the only people I could really gross out are my family, and they're probably too busy to notice anyway, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try, as long as I didn't have anything coming up where I'd have to be in public. LOL!
SO, I've been using the Tbsp. of baking soda (mixed with water) for washing scalp/hair, and a Tbsp. of apple cider vinegar (mixed with 1 cup water) as a rinse (instead of conditioner) and have been AMAZED at the results! The very first time I did it, I could tell the difference in my hair - it was so much lighter, and cleaner feeling - no waxy/oily junk coating it, making it heavy. It dried MUCH quicker, was SO much easier to comb out after my shower, and is softer than it has EVER been - and shinier too! I bet the companies that make shampoo, conditioner, etc. etc. etc. don't want anyone knowing about this fabulous secret! (But I'm telling everyone I know! LOL!) I can also let 2 days go by between washing my hair, even 3 if I want to - it stays much cleaner and less oily than it did when I used regular shampoos/conditioners.
There are many more great tips and recipes for natural (and inexpensive) hair remedies, but the baking soda/vinegar combo alone is worth the price of the book, as you'll easily save that much money in the first month alone!
I did notice that if I didn't rinse out the vinegar REALLY well that I would occasionally catch a whiff of vinegar smell from my hair, but I found the BEST solution for that - I add ONE little drop of Patchouli oil to the vinegar/water mix (you can use any scent you want - just one drop of a good, pure essential oil is all it takes! Lavender would be really nice and I plan to try that soon) and it completely buries the vinegar smell and gives me FABULOUS-smelling hair that stays great-smelling for at least 2 or 3 days!! Of course, you have to love patchouli oil for this one - seems people either love it or hate it - but as I said, you could use any of your favorite essential oil to add - it absolutely won't hurt you hair, as you really only need ONE drop - and many of the essential oils are great for your hair - especially rosemary (if you like the smell - I don't care for it myself) and chamomile.
I am THRILLED with my "new hair" (it's that different!) and with this book! Thanks, Diane! :)
