If you haven't read The Huntsman, the prequel to The Spider Series, I strongly recommend that you do so before starting Recluse. (There's no excuse - it's a quick reading, exciting novella, it lays some important and interesting backstory, and it's free on Amazon!)
One of the things I love most about Jaycee Ford's writing is how she bucks tradition. She writes what her heart tells her to write and where her characters take her. Recluse isn't a traditional romantic suspense story in the purest sense of the genre, but make no mistake, it is very romantic and it is decisively suspenseful. The romance between Wyatt and Grace was a sweet and gentle slow burn - something they both needed - yet much like the fireworks erupting around them on the night they finally got together, when they got there, they were explosive. The mystery portion of the plot was interesting, layered, exciting and had a definite whodunit feel to it, and this portion of the plot will carry, at least, into the next book of the series.
Recluse is another fantastic story by the exceptionally talented Jaycee Ford, and it kept me on the edge of my seat, anxiously tapping my Kindle, well into the night. I'm very much looking forward to the next installment!
This book is about a small town police force that has to investigate a murder. Well being a small town, murders don't happen often and if they do they shake the town up. The main voice in this book is of Wyatt Peterman who is a detective that lost his partner tragicly a year before. Well along with investigating this murder he has to deal with the lose of his partner. Oh I can't wait for the rest of the series, it has already drawn me in and I am sooooo intrigued by this little town! Jaycee Ford I need the next installment, like NOW!!
Provided as an ARC for a voluntary and honest review.
As Wyatt worked with the others within the department trying to solve the crime, he dances around his feelings for Grace. How could he fall for his partner's widow? Would he ever have true love with Grace? Would Grace let him in? Would she let him protect her and Chloe? Would the others within the department be accepting of a relationship if he can talk Grace into giving him a chance?
So much going on. So much tearing at my gut. Things aren't what they seem to be. Secrets need to be exposed. And the ending SUCKEDAnd the ending SUCKED (but in a good way)!!!!!!!! Why????? Because it wasn't an actual ending. Cliffhanger doesn't give the ending justice. I have tumbled into the abyss. I am left not knowing. Questions still remain, in fact I have more. I can only hope the wait is short. In the mean time I bask in excitement the author's writing stirred within me. Butterflies are a flutter. Twinges of fear are spreading. Jaycee hurry up and push publish!! I am dyeing for more.
**Warning this story does stop abruptly with a "to be continued", I was not expecting that. My 4 star rating is a 4.5 because of the way it was worded, nothing more.
Recluse started off with a BANG! It's kept my interest piqued but it did lag at times. I loved how Wyatt and Grace just clicked, even Grace's daughter Chloe was right there making this story of moving on after a tragic death one that was very believable.
There is mystery and intrigue in this true to form "whodunit" and I'm looking forward to reading more in this fabulous series.
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion of what I have read.
