That being said, it was an enjoyable read even if some aspects didn't quite feel real. I enjoyed the MCs and their different backgrounds. Lucas is a scientist who started his own pharmaceutical company years ago but has run into a bit of a snag due to the outbreak of the butterfly flu. He has had to leave everything behind due to those complications and must hide himself from the press. Becca is a veterinarian who is bubbly, fun and full of light and life and everything that Lucas was not expecting!
When the two first meet, tempers flare on one side and life frustrations blind them to the possibilities of friendship. Eventually understanding dawns and we get to read about their developing friendship.
I enjoyed the character of Big Red. He was fun and elusive. ;-) You'll have to read to discover all of his crazy antics. Let's just say he was good at stirring up trouble and quickly leaving the scene of the crime. Fun, lovable character. Hee hee!!!!!
As I said before some parts felt rushed and underdeveloped but if you go in knowing this is a novella and is a fast read with sparks, animals and scientists searching for a cure I think you'll enjoy it. Once I finally sat down and started reading this book it was a pretty quick read.
Content: clean with a few sweet kisses. Nothing graphic or suggestive. Book one in a series that can be read as stand alone books.
The time spent on his boat gives Lucas time to heal mentally and mourn his sister, to reset hIs thoughts about a possible cure to a flu projected to kill one-third of the people on earth. A great read and a chance to learn more about the fight to stay ahead of the incoming health problems posed by increased travel. I received this free and am voluntarily writing an honest review.
I like it that Becca is not the damsel in distress. She is vivacious, independent and smart and Lucas can't get her out of his thoughts. In short, this is a clean romance novel with a good plot and fun characters including a stray dog named Big Red.
I will say that I didn't buy the end of the world because of some weird flu that was spreading. It's possible, but I didn't feel the peril of it breathing down my neck in the story. Other than that, cute romance with a little more pain and healing behind the heart.
I give this a clean 4.
1-5 scale and what it means:
1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad
2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing
3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive
3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love
4: Solid mind candy / worth reading
4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read
5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure
Movie Ratings in relation to my review:
Clean--Hallmark movies, some kissing, no nudity, no sex on or off "screen"
PG--Some innuendo but nothing kids don't hear every day, sex is all closed door
PG-13--some language (swear words not related to sex), more talk about sex, heavy petting, removal of clothing on screen, but sex is closed door.
R--swearing (can be related to sex), feels like the whole story is about the sex and not the relationship or some other plot
Content: clean. No language or sex. Some very minor, non-graphic violence.
