Oddly, the series hasn't really looked into his past.
Jason has survived one step ahead of those that want him dead.

Great progression of the story, new magic and characters and storylines, I loved it all. If you've read the books up until this one, it satisfies nicely. If you haven't, I wouldn't suggest picking this one up before doing that, stories are told in order for a reason.

This is one of the better urban fantasy series that I've read. I enjoyed this book, and recommend it, but I did not appreciate it as much as the previous novels. In some ways the protagonist seems to have become a caricature of himself - I know he is understandably paranoid, but he could make friends in the early books. In this book he seems socially handicapped. And while there was lots of actions, the book ended abruptly and feels like half of a story. While I recommend it for those who enjoyed the first three, you may want to wait until book five is released before reading it.

My rating would be five stars, except for the strange amount of grammatical errors. The one that stands out in my mind is "due" instead of "do". Silly mistakes like that and more of them than I noticed in previous books in this series.

Moving away from the grammar and into the plot. The author sends us on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns. Former enemies become somewhat allies. Other enemies show up and finally get what's coming to them. Can't wait for the next book. Just hope the author either gets more time with an editor or whoever edits their work does a better job next time.

I read this in one setting. Haven't slept yet, it's that entertaining. Ah, the possibilities with that kind of magic. I would probably make a helicarrier and live there.
