This is a factory reconditioned product. Reconditioned generally means that the product has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the product back to fully functional condition. Some products may contain cosmetic blemishes, scrapes, scratches and dirt but should work like new. If this is a gift, please keep this in mind. Products containing oil may have spillage in transit. The factory provides a 1 year warranty available through a nationwide network of service centers. Purchase receipt is required.

The Expand-It attachments are made by Homelite. I'm not a Homelite fan, but why this was apparently avoided in the descriptions is beyond me. This having been said, they appear to be at least as capable as their more-famous competitor brands.

The Ryobi reconditioned power unit for these units is more than adequate for all the tasks involved. Using the straight shaft Ryobi power unit, though can be a little tough. "Reconditioned" means some surface imperfections. I could see no sign of the power plant itself ever having been used. I opened the gas tank and sniffed inside, and could detect no smell of gas, so I believe this was purchased and returned unused or possibly was a display model. Regardless, I believe I got a new unit for a less than new price. You may or may not be as lucky.Read more ›
When home and trying to use it again on the lawn, running the motor hard enough to do the edging and it stalled the engine. I got the lawn edged after many, many restarts. I pulled it instead of pushing. Probably will not try to use again and will have to explore ways to get my money back. Using it may shake the motorized part to pieces.
My guess is that either the blade was out of balance or my TC20CS may not have been powerful enough or something else.
Edited on 11/28/2012: Thinking that this edger may work better on another string-trimmer, I bought a reconditioned 2-cycle Ryobi from Amazon. The edger seems to run better with this unit, but I shut it down several times when the motor smelled like it could be overheating. It did get the edging done, however. Not sure if the edger needs a more powerful motor or maybe its blade is too "aggressive."
I have purchased several Ryobi products over the years but probably never will again. I ordered 4 items and after the first use, three had to be taken in for warranty repairs.
