It took a great deal of research to document the sinking and the interface between passengers. The author's grandfather died when the author was 9 years old so he didn't most likely get much information from him other than his diary. Merchant ship losses during wartime generally deal with the ship itself - tonnage, cargo , destination, convoy information etc. This one puts a human touch on the sinking and the loss of more than 200 passengers, The passengers are real in this book and it should definitely be read by anyone interested in the Battle of the Atlantic.
