Product description

Substantial storage, top-notch comfort, and extreme customizability are just a few reasons that the Large Assault Pack is such a great backpack. Four expanding compartments provide up to 35 liters of storage with built-in internal dividers and zippered pockets. Adjustable reinforced padded mesh shoulder straps, an adjustable waist strap, and a sternum strap evenly distribute the weight across your shoulders and waist for all-day comfort. A padded mesh back panel serves as a concealed pocket or provides storage for almost any hydration bladder, up to 2.5 liters. With compression straps on three sides, it is a cinch to tighten down your pack or to reduce the volume if you aren’t fully loaded. The outside of this pack is clad in MOLLE webbing to allow for expansion and customization to make it the perfect base for a bug-out or EDC bag

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously, the bag is literally falling apart.
By jeff c on March 11, 2015
I was very excited about this pack, since all the reviews talked about how sturdy it is. When I received it, I was impressed with how well stitched it seemed, the waterproofing inside, and how comfortable the straps are.

For context, I like larger packs for hauling around the tons of stuff I need throughout a typical NYC day. Clothes, laptop, books. Nothing crazy at all.

Six months after I received it, the waterproofing inside began to peel away. There's now none left at the top, and it continues to peel away down the sides, inside the bag. So anytime I take things out of the bag, large flakes of plastic liner go fluttering to the ground. (See photo.)

Two months later, a molle strap on the shoulder strap broke, even though I've never used the molle system for anything. (See photo.)

A month later, a strap holding a side buckle broke, even though I've never has to use the straps to adjust the bag. (See photo.)

And then, 10 months after I received the pack, a giant freakin' gaping 5" hole where the shoulder strap attaches to the bag. The fabric itself has shredded. Since it's right where the shoulder strap connects, everytime I put it on that hole just gets bigger and bigger. (See photo.)

I'm not treating this pack any differently than any other pack I've owned. Even the cheapest Jansport from Kmart lasted longer than a year without this litany of problems. And I'm just an urbanite hauling gym clothes and lunch around. I could understand if the pack was holding anything substantial.

It's too bad, because it really was comfortable. Lesson learned: no more Red Rock gear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Update; see the bottom of the original review
By Joel Harmon on September 4, 2016
I have 3 of these bags. one coyote for getting home, loaded and rides in my vehicle. one digi camo for hunting, pick it up and go ready for a day in the woods. The last one I bought is a black bag for traveling. I had to send the first black bag back. (Stitching problem, Contacted Amazon and got a new one right away) Recently took a five day trip to Boston with this bag. Had it packed tight, with clothes, toiletries, and everything I needed to record a video. It fit in the overhead with no problems, and felt fine on my back. This pack has had the most use and has held up.

This bag has been up and down the east coast numerous times on different airlines. Thrown in the back of my Jeep and taken several road trips, and a hunting trip to Florida. I am currently in Boston, getting ready to head back to Virginia. Five nights five days, done.

Update; yesterday my bag rolled of the luggage rack of my motorcycle. (My fault! I knew it wasn’t strapped down properly) I95 N 75 mph luckily no one ran it over. I opened it this morning EXPECTING to find my shaving kit destroyed! everything was in one piece. The bag is a little roughed up, but it is going in the jeep in a few to head towards the mountains for the rest of the weekend. The first three pics are of this same bag in a hotel in Boston. There rest are of the bag on my kitchen table after I had to go back and pick I up off the interstate!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this bag.

2019 Review: I purchased this bag in 2015 and it is still in great condition. No rips or major damage due to faulty construction. The only reason I need a new one is because the ACU pattern has been phased out and I would prefer to not use this pattern over my OCP. I’m including pictures taken 3/2/2020. This bag has been on every AT, disaster relief and training exercise I have been a part of.

2015 Review: I think this is a great bag. I purchased prior to leaving for Basic Training and used it during AIT. I haven't been very rough with it but it has been good so far. Matches the ACU design on my uniform, also. I don't know what everyone is complaining for unless they are all leaving reviews on different bags under the same company. My assault pack is a great size. Fits my 15” laptop and an iPad along with all my EDC. Waterproof interior hasn't started cracking yet. Overall, one of my better bag purchases. One flaw (which really isn't one depending on your needs) is that it isn't as spacious as a military issued assault pack but that is because of all the partitioned off areas. You can't just stuff random uniform items in there and expect it to fit perfectly. If you pack it and stuff it Tetris-style, I am sure you can pack a good amount of items.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fell apart in four months' time.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 26, 2016
I bought one for my son in January and he was so very pleased with it. Seemed sturdy and waterproof. After four months, however, the waterproofing is peeling away from the inside and the zipper to the main compartment is loose (see attached picture) so that's not waterproof anymore either. Very disappointing.

I expected this bag to be a lot bigger since it was marketed as a large bag. Don't get me wrong, this by no means is a small bag. But it's about the same size as my regular SwissGear backpack. Seems okay enough, though I prefer a wider base. There was also the following warning label included which leaves me with a lot of questions: "Warning, this product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, or birth defect or other reproductive harm." Ummm, what?! I thought I bought a backpack, what is this stuff made of, asbestos?

Poisonous cancer causing, reproductive harm aside, I felt a little mislead by all the glowing 5-star reviews and probably wouldn't have bought this bag at this price in a store if I'd seen it in person. Would have considered it for maybe $20 less. It'll serve its purpose for my motorcycle road trip as it seems rugged enough. It may grow on me once I break it in but I probably won't use it for much more than that.
