Product Description

Red Sea coral pro salt is the ideal salt mix for reef aquariums, encouraging accelerated, healthy growth and enhanced vitality of all corals. Unique formulation is created by blending natural solar evaporated salt (NaCl) harvested from the waters of the exotic reef together with other fine elements including biologically balanced elevated levels of calcium, magnesium and carbonates essential for inducing sustainable coral skeleton growth. Each individual crystal of the harvested salt contains 45 of the minor and trace elements present in reef water and together with the other added components of this formula, guarantees optimal levels of 57 element, even in small water changes. Due to the unique production process, salt does not contain higher than natural levels of heavy metals and therefore does not contain organic binders. All corals build their skeletons by absorbing the major, minor and trace elements that they need from the surrounding water. It has shown that the ratio between calcium/magnesium/carbonates is paramount for the corals to efficiently takes these elements from the water and grow. Salt provides the basis for accelerated healthy growth of all soft, LPS and SPS corals and is particularly recommended for growing out SPS coral frags. Available in 55-gallon pail.

I previously used Kent Reed Salt Mix and Instant Ocean. For some reason, this Coral Pro Marine Salt seems to help my corals grow faster and thrive better. The mixing directions do not provide for small quantities of salt water. However, 1/2 cup salt to a gallon of water gives me the perfect salinity.

Having been a reef hobbyist for almost 10 years I've tested and used quite a few salt mixes and to date Red Sea's Coral Pro ("RSCP") salt mix has been the best and most cost efficient of them all.

First, mixing couldn't be easier. I typically use exactly 1/2 cup for every 1 gallon of RODI water to achieve the 1.025 salinity my corals crave. RSCP mixes quickly, usually within 30 minutes, and without calcium precipitate found in many other brands. If you find it is leaving a residue then you have mixed for too long. Instructions indicate 30 minutes to *no longer* than 2 hours ... that is spot-on.

Next, RSCP is *natural* and not synthetic and contains about every needed trace element you can think of as well as boosted foundation elements such as calcium, magnesium and carbonates. When mixed properly with 0 TDS RODI water I typically achieve at or near the advertised levels: ~450-500 Ca, ~1350-1400 Mg, ~pH 8.3 and ~K 400.

Finally comes cost. Yes, RSCP is a bit pricier than others but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". Because of its ease of use (I no longer have to prepare water 24 hours in advance of a water change. Now, I begin mixing when I start my maintenance) and elevated levels of foundation and trace elements I no longer have the need to dose additional supplements for regular operation of my reef tank. That in effect saves me quite a few $$ per month.

If you are running FOWLR (fish only with live rock) this is probably not the best mix for you however, for those of us with corals such as SPS, LPS and softies that literally suck the elements out of the water and inverts that crave calcium this mix can't be beat. When visitors ask me, "what's the secret sauce to your reef?, I smile and point at this bucket. (cornie I know!!! But true)

Love Red Sea Coral Pro! I have a biocube, and feel like I am constantly dosing to keep my parameters in line. Mixed to 1.025, this salt gives you great numbers, and my coral is VERY happy. I have read that some people find they don't have to dose their tanks at all after switching to RSCP, but I still do. The difference that I've noticed is that all of the parameters are consistently staying in the target range that I want for my SPS. The salt mixes quickly, and I haven't noticed any issues with precipitation.

I've used Instant Ocean Reef Crystals for several years and have always had good results. I needed to buy more salt for my water change and a fellow reefer suggested Red Sea Coral Pro Salt. It's a bit more expensive but he raved about it so I thought I'd give it a try. I've only had it in my tank for less than a week, but the difference from my previous salt is surprising.

1) Instant Ocean takes about 4 hours to clear up when mixing. Red Sea took about 30 minutes.
2) I mixed the Red Sea using the same recipe I use for Instant Ocean and it's clear it's more concentrated by volume. The amount I use to get 35ppt with Instant Ocean made it about 45ppt with Red Sea. I will be correcting my mixing next time.
3) Red Sea had an immediate and positive effect on both ORP and pH. See attached Apex Graph.

I change about 15% of the water a week in my 29 Biocube. In the attached graph, I changed more like 20% with Red Sea because it was more concentrated than I expected. You can see the immediate positive changes in both pH and ORP.

The fish and coral seem to be doing great (they grew well with Instant Ocean too). I honestly didn't expect there to be such a difference with salt. I'm looking forward to seeing if there is a corresponding improvement in coral growth.

The salt is fantastic wouldn't use any other salt in any of my aquariums..but I have ordered twice and had the same problem with both shipments...the buckets were busted leaking salt and I was unable to utilize the buckets and lost a couple cups of salt as well. Overall price quality of product is there just be careful with shipping.

I will start off by saying that I did not buy this off of Amazon but rather my local store. I have to say this is the best salt I have ever bought. It has all the chemicals you need for a healthy reef tank (except iodine, but that comes in water anyways)without any of the hassle of dosing your tank. Mg, Ca, a proper ph are all obtained using this salt. I was prompted to write this review based on the other one here that gave it one star. Its a 15.7lb bucket of salt that can make 55 gallons. The one star review is the persons fault, not the salts. This is a great salt at a good price. I highly recommend.

Have been using this on my 60gallon mixed reef for some time now.... It is excellent in every regard. Once mixed properly (2.5 cups for every 5 gallons), you will be hard pressed to find any issues with your water chemistry. PH, salinity, calcium, etc are all properly maintained and not much fuss is required. High quality salt ... Must buy...

I was a tad disappointed with Amazon's shipping on this bucket - the lid was opened and 1/4 of the salt had leaked into the cardboard box. I notified customer service at once......
