A page turner to no end, this story draws you in immediately. Sonja is an intelligent, wise, thoughtful, compassionate, vengeful and bloodthirsty warrior, who shows strong emotion and passion throughout, while battling her demons within. The story contains many twists, turns and surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat, and guessing until the end. We also have great dialogue, excellent pacing, beautiful scenery and incredible action scenes.
Her companions were remarkable as well. I can't think of one of them, who didn't commit a selfless act at some point. Like with Sonja, we learn what drives, motivates, and haunts them. They care about each other, and that makes us care more about them. Character development was across the board.
In the end, the convergence between everything and everyone was unbeatable, with all the characters having some sort of reckoning.
The bad guys were cool too.
All and all, one of the best fantasy books I've ever read.
I will definitely read more in the series.
