Question: When did you know you wantedto become a writer?
Nicola Mar: I think I always knew. I have always lovedto write. I wrote my first short story in second grade, and I have always been anavid reader. In fact, my favorite childhood memories were when my Scholastic books arrived. I loved everything Judy Blume and Madeleine L'Engle.
Question: What inspired you to write A Red Tale?
Nicola Mar: The ocean. My liferevolved around it. I grew up in the Caribbean where I could hear the oceanfrom my window. Many of my younger days were spent in the water. I was alwaysfascinated by the wonder of the sea. I thought it would be great to write abook inspired by my childhood experiences with the most wonderful andfascinating part of nature.
Question: Is there a greater meaningto your novel, or is it just a fun fantasy read?
NicolaMar:The main plot revolves around a teenager who discovers she has lived a pastlife. Through all her struggles to find out why, she learns that her behaviorsin her current life have been affected by past events. I'm hoping that peoplewho read this novel will explore the possibility that their lives have greatermeaning.
