The best part about reading this book was its even-handedness. In short, Mr. White follows the approach of the popes themselves: refusing to take sides according to party lines, as we are used to seeing in American politics, and, on the contrary, presenting the objective and timeless approach based on Catholic principles like Subsidiarity and Solidarity. This is an encouraging read in the American context, and while avoiding a dry, academic approach, the author still manages to sprinkle in plenty of citations ranging from Leo XIII to Francis. He has a true knowledge of his subject matter.

A timely book on navigating the minefields of a culture growingly indifferent, if not hostile to Christianity generally and the Catholic Church particularly. Instead of retreating from the public square, White underscores the importance of engaging on issues of the day. "Red, White, Blue and Catholic" provides important insights on how to maintain our Catholic identity and be faithful citizens.
