The first time I ran it, the steering servo stripped. After inspecting it, it's no wonder, they only put a 3KG servo in these! Way undersized for a 4WD truck with tires like this. The good news is I contacted Redcat, and they mailed me a replacement 6KG servo immediately. So they stand behind their products, a great thing.
For speed, this is PLENTY fast for beginners. It's faster than my brushed Traxxas Slash, which is about the same price. But it's definitely slower than other equivalent (but more expensive) brushless LiPo cars. My brushless traxxas rustler vxl runs circles around this, but it's also nearly twice the price. If you want this to really go fast, you need to put a 3-cell LiPo in it. (Be sure to modify your ESC fan for the added heat.)
Final "nit pick" note: The speed control in these isn't quite as fine-tuned as I'd hoped. It feels like it goes in 10% increments or something, and going from forward to reverse is sometimes a little clunky. Again, this is probably because I'm use to Traxxas speed controllers that are a little smoother. But worth noting.
Overall, a great alternative to much higher priced brushless cars.
The not so good: The truck is so light that it is difficult to control even by an experienced driver. The stock controller has no throttle trim so I purchased an after market transmitter and trimmed the throttle down to 70% and it makes it better. This is definitely not a good short course truck.
The bad: This truck is not very durable. Something breaks virtually every time I run it. Flips and slight impacts negatively effect the front suspension which seems to be under built for this truck. The tires are very poor for any even semi loose dirt, gravel, or clay. Traction is non-existent. It comes with 12mm hubs so I purchased a 17mm conversion kit from Redcat so i can fit some soft 3.8 truggy tires to see if that helps.
Overall with some mods, I think this can be a great little truck. But right now, it's too much engine, not enough chassis.
