I actually had a hard time reading this one. It was provided to me as a free Arc, and I was so excited to get an early copy, but the book was frankly awful.

The first chapter is wonderful - that's why I gave it 3 stars, it introduces the military heroes on a mission. The writing on this chapter is exciting, clear and A+. However, when the story returns to the States and focuses on Hunter's ex-girlfriend, it loses all the momentum, and I seriously think the rest of the book is written by another author than the one that wrote Chapter One.

My complaints: The main female character is a VICOP. A victim in search of a perpetrator. She makes horrible choices, in almost every single facet of her life, from her choice of business, to her involvement in a paramilitary group of local mercenaries, to her love life, nothing she chooses to do is designed to make her a productive member of society. Her ex beat her half to death, branded her, and yet she continues to allow him to control her life.

The hero also makes stupid moves. He leaves vital evidence unsecured in order to go 'bang' the heroine. That's also my other complaint about this book, I know it's a romance, and I love suspense romance, but these two 'bunnies' go at it like those monkeys who had the wire planted in their pleasure center of their brains. The monkeys would slap a button and be rewarded with an orgasm. These two characters are slapping that button in the face of every possible danger (except a bear in the room), and I kept waiting for them to be shot with their pants down.

This is the first book I have read by this author and will be reading heaps more. It is a great read with just the right amount of emotional pull between good and bad. Starts off a little differently but just gets better and better. Keep reading you will love it. I won't tell you all about the plot and spoil the suspense for you, you will just have to read it for yourself. Happy reading!

As a first book in the series there was definitely a ton of info that was provided in the first couple chapters, but I also felt that I was missing out on some stuff. I had to check and make sure that this wasn't a spin-off series at one point cause I was lost a few times. I can see where this series could really take off if things weren't so over the top. I liked this book enough to recommend it to friends, so we'll see what happens in future books. There were a couple things that were left hanging that I would've liked tied up, but then what would the second book be about?

****Spoiler****
One thing that seriously bothered me was when they escape out of her house and start walking down the gravel road, see an alligator that they scare off with a rock and somehow decided that that would be the absolute best place to stop and have sex. My first thought...get somewhere safe and make a camp where the river isn't six feet from my face, alligator free, and not on gravel.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

So this book appealed to me for a couple of reason: I love books with military guys (they are just super hot and I love a guy who can handle himself and protect the people he cares about), I really like books with a thriller/suspense element to it, I love books where the main characters have a past together, especially when that relationship didn't end on the best of terms, and lastly, I love books where there is an element of revenge involved.

So when the book starts its seriously kind of heartbreaking. Hunter is our hero and he is a member of a special ops teams, and in the middle of a mission he ends up losing one of his guys, and you can tell the whole thing is just so hard for him. Especially since he was injured and he can't go back out to look for his guy. So while he is recovering, half of his team gets sent back to Hunter's hometown, there is intel saying the attack and the weapons smuggling they were investigating is coming from back there, and omg his ex might be involved. When the book starts, Hunter has a lot of anger built up, and he isn't really looking forward to spending time with Evie, but he is looking forward to getting some kind of payback on her, on taking her down, both for justice as well as kind of payback for her cheating on him. I actually liked Hunter, you could tell he was going through a really hard experience, but at the same time he has a really good heart. I loved how quick he reacted to things, and even better he was so appealing when he was all physical and take charge.

Evie, oh sweet Evie, now if there is anyone to feel bad for it's her. She was totally in love with Hunter, and he left her without warning. If that wasn't bad enough the next guy she dating was literally scum of the earth, who was beyond abusive to her.

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review*
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great introduction to all of the characters in the series. The brothers Hunter and Ranger are intense. I liked seeing all the little couples as they form. The suspense in this story will keep you turning the pages, while the author occasionally gives us a giggle worthy moment to lighten the mood.
The only fall back for me, was Evie. She constantly ran and it annoyed me. Why would you continuously just literally run? It was too much, once I get it, but it happened more than once. Either way, I'm super excited to read more from this series and see some of the other couples we see growing. And oh what an ending!!! Whew, just grab this book if you enjoy suspense. It reminded me of Cristin Harbin, Kaylea Cross, very exciting and suspenseful.
