Going into this book I was expecting to pickup from where we left off at the end of Combative with Ky, Madison (Bailey), and Nate. However, what I found was a whole different layer of story from a different time and place.
Jay is the queen of making my emotions work overtime, forcing me to feel so many feels. As loving as this story was, it was also angry and heart stabbing. There was an honest love that was blooming, yet it got plucked before it could fully bloom. And the pain...I could honestly feel that deep pain in my heart that was just awful. The heartbreak I was left with is just all consuming and driving me nuts.
So many questions that I wanted to ask about Bailey were answered in Redemptive, yet at the same time it evoked so many more burning questions that I really NEED answered.
So far this series is just so amazing because it shows that Jay was able to step out of her comfort zone and write a different type of story altogether...and boy did she rock the heck out of it!! She has grown so much as a writer and I am so glad that I was able to watch her bloom into the amazing author she has become. I honestly cannot wait for Combative #3 so we can all see how this amazing story will unfold itself.

Tick Tock
Who is Bailey?

Mystifying, intriguing, heart stopping, and so beautiful. Who is Bailey? We're given an entire book to learn about her; who she is, how she thinks, where she comes from. And we do, we learn so much about her but at the same time she is still a complete mystery. Bailey is so complex that days later I still can't get her story and the many questions I still have about her out of my mind. My mind is spinning trying to process everything that happened and how it will impact the rest of Ky and Bailey's story.

This book dove into the complexity of the human mind. How it's affected by things like; environment, stress, addiction, and love. I'm struggling even now to process everything I learned. The complexity of this storyline was so refreshing and such a unique experience.

I've always been a fan of Jay's work but I really feel like she stepped out of the box when she created this book and these characters.

Jay McLean's name deserves to be an adjective. For real. Like when you get done reading a book - especially one of HER books - and you're sitting in a room, staring at absolutely nothing and someone walks in and asks what's wrong. You can look at them and say, "Oh! Sorry, I've been McLeaned - or Jayed - or J-Maced." and because that's a normal thing now they can nod their head in understanding and walk away, leaving you to contemplate the awesome of what you just read.

Redemptive is a story so engaging, so profound... words are hard to put into place for me to describe it best. If you've read Jay's other works you'll know the depth of her writing skills. And Redemptive is no different. It's an incredible story of brokenness, understanding, heart ache and pain. But more than that even, it's a story of breaking the patterns set before you.

I won't recap the story - you can enjoy it all on your own. What I will do is recommend this story. I recommend it whether you have read Combative first or not. It's incredible. It's telling. It's all Jay.

This is the 2nd book in the series and I went in blind - having not read the synopsis but assuming it would pick up from the mother of a cliff hanger that book 1 ended with. Well I can say that I totally wrong and completely blown away in the best way possible.

This book is essentially Bailey and Nate's back story and I loved it!!

Some of the mystery around Bailey was revealed in this book, but it also left me with so many more unanswered questions and theories. I must say I gasped when I read the circumstances which led her to meeting Nate. ( what a tangled web - seriously)

Bailey was fearless and brave on the outside but so very lost in reality. I felt so sorry for the circumstances of her life and loved that she never once played the victim card. I connected with her so much more in this book than in Combative.

When we were introduced the Nate De Luca in Combative I instantly loved the name (crazy I know ) and as the story progressed hoped he really wasn't the bad guy he was labelled as.

In Redemptive we learn that Nate De Luca is indeed a big time drug dealer but as a testament to Ms McLean's writing she developed his character perfectly and I didn't care what he did for a living. I loved how he saved Bailey to the detriment of his own safety and I loved how he put her at the centre of every decision he made and how he loved Bailey unconditionally. Basically I loved everything about him.

I felt the love Nate and Bailey had for each other and with the 3rd book I truly hope they find their way back to each other which is where they belong.

" I’d already surrendered to my fate. It would have been useless to fight, and honestly—I had no fight left."

Redemptive is the second book in the Combative Trilogy and a true showcase of the writing genius of Jay McLean. After reading Combative, you may have your theories and think you know where this story is headed but believe me you have no idea. This book sucked me in from the very beginning and held me there as if dangling over a cliff. McLean's ability to intricately weave this darker story-line of mystery and intrigue with her signature flair for romance and raw emotion is flawless.

These characters have settled into the deepest part of my soul. I didn't want to love Nate but he was written with such perfection that it left me no option. I was a huge Madison supporter in Combative and McLean does not disappoint with this character in Redemptive. I stand in awe of this battle between strength and broken that she so clearly portrays in Bailey with her written words.

"One hit. I’d just need one hit to clear my head. To clear the memories. To clear my conscience. "

Redemptive is a journey that will leave you questioning it all. Craving the darkness and grasping for light. It's so much more than a fantastic book. It's a total mindf*ck at its finest!
