They have the sticky strip on the inside, the rest doesn't stick. They're only slight see through, and just as you'd expect, made of paper. So if you're buying these thinking they'll last up to abuse, then you should probably go for folder dividers.
I have no trouble with them. If you sticky them, and close the book, the pressure should keep them in place.
Bonus? They come in a little plastic holder so they aren't flopping everywhere and getting lost. I enjoy that there are 60, though for my needs there aren't enough of each individual color. For most people these would probably work fine.
I gave 5 stars because it's exactly like I expect and then some. I'm SUPER pleased.
While I like these a LOT and will continue to use them, I agree with a reviewer who said the theory is better than the execution. The stickers come in a booklet bound with a plastic cover. I like the cover as it keeps the top sticker from getting damaged - a problem if you carry post-its around. But you have to pull the sticker off the sticker below it completely, then rip it out of the binding. It's awkward. But this is a minor annoyance.
My biggest issue is the width of the lines. They're super wide - maybe even slightly wider than wide ruled notebook paper. Yes, I prefer narrow ruled paper, but beyond that, why would you put such wide lines on such a small writing space? I almost wish there were no lines at all so I could make my own.
I also wish the tab didn't stick out quite so far.
Aside from those quibbles, I enjoy these. I love the bright colors and the fact that there are 60 in a pack.
How I use them: I'm working on a research thesis that will involve reading many books, most of which I'll have to check out from the library, so I can't highlight and annotate on the page or in kindle. So I devised this system of placing a tabbed divider to denote a section of chapters, and then listing the page number and a brief note on each page I mark as being of interest or use to my research. I use Post-Its page flags for this.
When that divider is full, I mark the tab with the chapters it covers and start a new section with a new color divider and new color page markers. If I feel the need to add notes on the page, I use a lined Post-It for that purpose.
This is working so well that I may do it even for non-library books. Not only will it keep me from rendering books I own unsuitable for resale because the pages are covered in writing, but it's beyond awesome to open to the tabbed divider and see at a glance what I've marked. So much better than flipping blindly through marked pages and trying to decipher my marginalia.
As a literature major I read a lot of books and this system will help me rely more heavily on library books and rentals, as well as resell the ones I own more readily. It will also help me keep better track of my research. All in all I think this will save me money and time, and make these tabbed dividers, as well as my page markers and sticky notes, a wise investment.
