About the Author
Matthew Kelly is a best-selling author, speaker, thought leader, entrepreneur, consultant, spiritual leader, and innovator.
He has dedicated his life to helping people and organizations become the-best-version-of-themselves. Born in Sydney, Australia, he began speaking and writing in his late teens while he was attending business school. Since that time, 5 million people have attended his seminars and presentations in more than 50 countries.
Today, Kelly is an internationally acclaimed speaker, author, and business consultant. His books have been published in more than 30 languages, have appeared on the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller lists, and have sold more than 45 million copies.
In his early-twenties he developed "the-best-version-of-yourself" concept and has been sharing it in every arena of life for more than twenty-five years. It is quoted by presidents and celebrities, athletes and their coaches, business leaders and innovators, though perhaps it is never more powerfully quoted than when a mother or father asks a child, "Will that help you become the-best-version-of-yourself?"
Kelly's personal interests include golf, music, art, literature, investing, spirituality, and spending time with his wife, Meggie, and their children Walter, Isabel, Harry, Ralph, and Simon.

Rediscover Jesus is a profound invitation to seek deeply personal answers to our deeply personal questions. Each page seems to effortlessly reach into every aspect of our lives, providing spiritual wisdom and practical insights that help us to know both Jesus and ourselves in a new way.
Some books find us at just the right time, and those books change our lives forever. Rediscover Jesus is one of those books.
How Well Do You Know Jesus?
I think about this often, and I always come to the same realization. I don't know Jesus anywhere near as well as I would like to know him. The desire is there, but life gets in the way. There are times when I seem to be making great progress, and other times when I wonder if I know him at all.
But I always arrive back at the same inspiring and haunting idea: If there is one person that we should each get to know in a deeply personal way, it is Jesus the carpenter from Nazareth, the itinerant preacher, the Son of God, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, the Lamb of God, the new Adam, the Messiah, the Alpha and the Omega, the Chosen One, the Light of the World, the God-Man who wants good things for us more than we want them for ourselves, the healer of our souls.

But, there was one thing that really detracted from this book for me. That is the use of unsubstantiated superlatives. I noticed the same thing is "Rediscover Catholicism," which was also a great book except for this. So, this time, I feel the need to point it out.
Here are a few examples:
In one section the author says Jesus had NOTHING except sandals and a cloak, and had no home. What is the basis for that statement? Yes, he instructed his disciples to make a specific journey that way, but he didn't indicate that his whole life was lived that way. In Mark 2:1, he is said to be "at home," which means he had a home. And, when Judas was betraying Jesus, it is mentioned that Judas was helping himself to money from the purse, which means the group had money. Obviously, he was willing to leave his material things behind and head for the cross, but that doesn't mean he never had any material things. I don't think the use of the superlative was important to the point the author was making. It didn't need to be there.
In another section, the author says that the Centurion at the Cross was the FIRST human to call Jesus the Son of God. What about Peter, when Jesus asks him "Who do you say I am?" in Matthew 16:16? Or, what about Martha in John 11:27? Again, the use of the superlative (first) was not important to the point. The book would have been better if it just wasn't there.
In yet another section, he says that more books have been written about Jesus than ANYONE ELSE. That might be true, but a statement like that needs a citation. A lot of books have been written about Napoleon, Buddha and Confucius too. God wants to be first in our hearts, he does not need to be first in a worldly publishing contest. Once again, the superlative wasn't important to the point being made.
This may seem petty. And, again, the message of the book was great. And, I look forward to reading more books by Matt Kelly. But, these details really detracted from the quality of the book for me. I am guessing that, in his role as a business consultant, Mr. Kelly would not let his clients get away with that kind of thing.
Still, read this book.
Each chapter has a point to ponder, a verse to live, a question to consider and a prayer. This book is meant to be read, then discussed, then meditated upon. It's bound to be rejected, provoke tears and simply scare the hell out of you. I can see it leading folks to feel wrapped in His love, healed, accepted. It's about Jesus. He does all that and more.
Needless to say, I'm smitten and recommend it highly. It's a great adoration companion, bible study option and giveaway. It has 40 chapters and its cover is purple - Lenten companion. Image if our parish rediscovered Jesus before celebrating Easter! Talking about renewing the parish! #BuyingMoreCopies!

I’ve recommended it to so many people and they in turn have recommended it to others who are sharing the same view that it helps us all to rediscover Jesus.
It’s easy to read and useful in a life group or with youth and young adults.
Highly recommended. One of my easy reads.
