About the Author
Ruth Townsend holds a B.A. in English Language Arts from UCLA and an M.A. from Columbia University Teachers College, with additional studies in language, literature, and the teaching of writing. For a number of years she was a teacher at Yorktown High School, where she also served as Coordinator of English. Currently, she teaches at Manhattanville College, is a consultant from Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, the Westchester Education Coalition, and the New York State Education Department. She is a Fellow of the New York State English Council and Region 1 Director for the National Council of Teachers of English.
Marcia Lubell holds a B.A. in English from Radcliffe College, Harvard University, and an M.A. from Columbia University Teachers College with additional studies in language arts and the teaching of writing. For a number of years, she was coordinator of English at Yorktown High School and a member of the Hudson Valley Leadershp Academy Faculty; currently she is a consultant for the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES and the New York State Education Department and served as a lead teacher in the New Standards Portfolio Project.
