This collection was the second best one that I have read this year, after "The Wide Carnivorous Sky" by John Langan.
Some stories are comedic, some are disturbing, and some are scary. That said, I don't think I read a single story in this collection that I did not like.
I'm having a hard time calling out a story - as they do vary - and likely vary to your interest - but my favorite so far deals with the "Poor Quality" (eg outhouse) summoning, dinner ("not qutie right") on the table, and a boy (with powerful (non) magic (!)) with a new "dog", and the Elder Gods retreating. This is the absolutely most refreshingly different spin. The others are generally quite good - and different - as well.
don't get me wrong - I love Cthulhu Mythos - but If you're getting bored with - or want to forestall getting bored - with Cthulhu Mythos - then I highly recommend this book.
Past that I haven't delved further into any specific author. But get this book
if you enjoyed this you'll also enjoy the Space Eldritch books.
That one involves a time-traveling and space-warping truck as well as Nyarlathotep's daughter on a "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (only it's Georgia)-esque journey. The rest of the stories involve craziness of their own like a young boy out to rescue his uncomfortably hot alien mother from a coal mining baron's slavery and tales of sacrifice gone horribly wrong with blue grass music as an accompaniment. This is definitely a must for Cthulhu aficionados who don't take their hobby so seriously.
