The Brakeman Timed Digital Brake Control features a digital display that shows “output” & “sync” settings, brake overload or short connections. No moving parts and no leveling is required with this item. For use with 2, 4, 6 & 8 brake systems and compatible with anti-lock braking systems. Mounting hardware is included for a smooth and simple installation. Reese Towpower brake controls are 100% "solid-state electronic." Models are designed for use with one to four axle systems. These units meet all National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA/DOT) regulations regarding tow vehicle/trailer stoplight activation. Their ease of operation and innovative design features make them perfect choices for today's towing vehicles. Time-Based Brake Controls generate an output signal that increases over a period of time (Ramp Cycle). The Time-Based Brake Controls apply braking power at a fixed rate that is NOT proportional to the pressure applied to the brake pedal.

One suggestion I have for installing this controller; avoid the blue scotchlock connectors provided in this kit if at all possible. Go get some good nylon butt connectors, or ideally, uninsulated seamless butt connectors with double walled HD heat shrink. Get either channellock 909 or Irwin 2078310 crimpers. These blue scotchlock connectors are incredible unreliable and are extremely susceptible to corrosion and moisture. Because they make such a small contact point on the wires, even a small amount of corrosion can cause strange intermittent failures. As a related tip, if you are having problems with your trailer lighting, inspect your wiring and remove all scotchlock connectors and replace them with heat-shrinked butt connectors. These are the number one cause of issues on trailers we work on at my shop.
There's a reason that this controller has been around SO many years. If it was junk it wouldn't still be on the market. As with anything, you can get a bad one, and I'm sure it happens. But I have never had any problems with any of the ones I have owned. As long as you wire them right and set both dials properly, you shouldn't have any problems. I highly recommend this controller.
Oh, and also, from what I have seen, you simply can't beat the price!
The most difficult part of this install was trying to decide where to put it so that it is out of the way but still easily usable.
Here's my tip for the best installation method. I got a package of the Command brand double sided adhesive velcro strips from the hardware store for about $5. Amazon sells them too. The ones I got are for picture hanging and are 16 lb capacity, more than enough for this little controller. Two of the strips on the back and it holds perfectly onto the side of my console, out of the way and easy to see and use. The best part is the strips can be removed in the future with no damage at all to your vehicle.
