I love the Reflectix foil tape. It works great and it covered up most of my mistakes. I probably used more than needed but I really like the way it holds everything together and the way it looks. One thing I learned when working with the tape is an easy way to peel the foil from the paper backing. Bend a small corner towards the paper-side (so that paper touches paper) and back-again twice. This will cause the paper to slightly separate from the foil at the edge of the fold line to make it easier to get started.
Lastly, I did not realize how much heat the uninsulated duct had been throwing off. The temperature in the room is much more stable now and the AC is switching on less often.
I wish I had another exposed duct because I want to do it again!
I did not measure the temps, but the exhaust hose by it self was hot to the touch, but not painful. After the first layer, it was significantly cooler, but still noticeably warm. And after the second wrap around the hose was done, a majority of the hose was room temp. Although the last portion of the hose tends to run warmer than the rest, but its almost completely room temp for the heat it produced beforehand.
All in all it works as intended and i until I find a better product, this is my recommendation.
The wrapping is easy to cut into manageable pieces, and leaves absolutely no mess. It's kind of like bubble wrap and works really well to lock in the heat. There's more than enough here to wrap a standard tube for a portable AC. Mine isn't extended very far, so I have enough for replacement wrapping down the road!
Only reason one star is bumped off is that it seems to dislike my metallic tape at first, and was a bit unruly when I first set it up (Using the entire thing to triple insulate a portable ac hose). Think of it like really dense bubble wrap, and you'd get a good idea of what using it is like. trying to get it flush with both connections took a good deal of effort. Metallic tape should have stuck, the rest isn't really something that could have been done better. So just one star off.
