I do also have a great jelly bag, but sometimes it can be a hassle to get things out (like butter) and this is so much handier. The bag I have sometimes will shed strings into what I’m I’m making. I can pull them out, but this is better for some things.
However, after reading the reviews, I took a chance and got the single cloth. I am relieved--RELIEVED--that this one turned out to be fairly decent. Then again, I am a novice so maybe I'm too easily impressed :).
This was a h-u-g-e piece of cloth and I almost thought too large but it actually worked out perfectly for what I needed it for. First, I washed it in non-toxic (Seventh Generation dish soap) by itself, very gently then let it air dry. It held up well, far better than I thought it would. When I used it to make my first ever batch of veggie broth, it held up even better then expected! And I wasn't really gentle when I was squeezing the liquid out and it still held up decently but if you are too aggressive and rush, it'll definitely tear. I also washed it again afterwards, let it dry and while there were light stains on it from the veggies, it still held up as well as the texture of the cloth still fairly soft and not at all stiff. In other words, I can at least use it one more time--hopefully more. And if need more, I'll get the multi-pack, for sure. Recommend for the novice, as it is forgiving and easy to use.
(Update 4/12/18: I was able to use this cloth for another round of veggie broth! I used a different recipe that included a tablespoon of EVOO--which, silly me, I shouldn't have done but I didn't realize that until after I'd strained it. Ugh. Despite that mistake, I was able to clean it thoroughly and it's STILL in good shape to use again!)
