When the current Alpha, Kiba goes mad from the lunar flower disease, Lukina goes in search of Joszi, hoping to bring him back to Hungary to save not only the pack, but Ilona. Will her love, and that of Ilona be enough to draw him to his destiny? Or will Kiba’s madness win and Joszi lose his loves forever? Can Joszi defeat Kiba or is his madness too strong?
I LOVED this book! Full of steamy sex, fight scenes, and a hot tortured hero, Sascha has done it again. A great start to a wonderful series to come.
What's not to like? There's Sex! In-pack fighting! Romance! Danger! And my favorite, Wolves...
Also, early on, there's cigar smoking. If you like or don't mind cigar smoke, that makes for a distinctive and fairly unusual character trait. If you are like me and would just as soon smell dog vomit or rotting garbage as cigar smoke, it takes some work to get past the yuck and back to enjoying the sexiness.
The scenes in Hungary were interesting; the ones in Texas sometimes a bit graphic with violence, but hey, werewolves are not lapdogs.
Where this novella excels is in depicting the very real, interrelated love one person can have for more than one mate. The differences between Ilona and Lukina are well drawn, and the love - and sexual heat - among this triad for each other is palpable. In the end Józsi makes what feels like the right decision.
Wanting to maintain a normal life outside of pack life, Józsi moved to avoid a prophecy that would ultimately make him Alpha of a dying pack. That’s a responsibility he doesn’t want. In his place is an Alpha that is abusing to the other pack mates that are without mates. When Ilona becomes the Alpha's next target Józsi finds that maybe he can’t just walk away from a life he yearns for.
Joszi had turned his back on his pack and his mates Ilona and Lukina ten years ago fleeing Hungary to Texas not wanting the prophecy that he was destined to be the pack Alpha, a responsibility he didn’t want, to come to fruition.
Lukina convinces Joszi to return to Hungary to rescue his other mate, her pack sister, Ilona who has fallen victim to the current Alpha Kiba who has gone mad from the lunar flower disease and abusing the females of the pack. Joszi has no interest in pack politics, prophecy or the human hunters killing off the pack until trouble follows him back to Houston. There he must defend the ones he loves, will it lead him to his destiny as told in the prophecy? You’ll have to read it to find out.
I really liked that Sascha made the “werewolf “ his own by giving them powers and their shifting and illusion abilities, it was refreshing from the “usual”.
I highly recommend His Reign for the twist he puts on the lycan story, how well written it is, great plot and the connection I made to the characters. This was a great start to a new series, I can't wait to see what else is in store for Joszi and the Opeth Pack.
