Firefighter Morgan has worked hard to build a home for himself after a nomadic childhood. When Morgan is called to a fire, he finds the family out front, but their tenant still inside. He rescues Richard Smalley, who turns out to be an old friend he hasn’t seen in years and the one person he regretted leaving behind.
Richard has had a hard life. He served in the military, where he lost the use of his legs, and has been struggling to make his way since coming home. Now that he no longer has a place to live, Morgan takes him in, but when someone attempts to set fire to Morgan’s house, they both become suspicious and wonder what’s going on.
Years ago Morgan was gutted when he moved away, leaving Richard behind, so he’s happy to pick things up where they left off. But now that Richard seems to be the target of an arsonist, he may not be the safest person to be around.

Here he is again, back among his firemen and cops in Harrisburg, PA. The book opens with a horrifying fire and an exceptionally unlikely rescue operation that has fireman Morgan rescuing wheelchair-bound ex-Marine Richard only to discover after 20 years apart that they knew each other when...and how much they cherish a friendship that was ripped apart when Morgan was forced to move away when they were 13-year-olds.
Grey gets right to the point here, and then spends the rest of the book trying to get Richard back into the real world, not the one he left behind in Iraq. This is a familiar theme in many contemporary MM romances, but Grey is a master at developing, expositing and solving deeply buried fears and insecurities. And he brings in one of the sweetest romantic twists of the year--one that involves a rusty nail (not the drink!) You might shed a tear at that point it's so heartwarming.
He brings in other characters from previous books in the series to help both Morgan and Richard deal with their insecurities as well as the threat to their lives that emerges as the action-plot device.
I will be frank here and let you know that as soon as one of his books appears on my Kindle, I start it to get a taste--and like virtually every other one, I did not stop until I finished. You probably won't, either, and we can compare grins afterwards.
