pros: This book basically has the Feldenkrais exercises. They are with a very short explanation and a very basic drawing. The movements are life changing IF you have some basic knowledge beforehand. Feldenenkrais classes are expensive and this will give you the "homework" you will need.
Cons: This book was written some years ago, like the disco days era, so what few photo illustrations look dated. There are no photos of anyone actually doing the movements that would be helpful.
Amazon sells a great MP3 set by Ryan Nagy that is far more helpful than this book, titled Feldenkrais Classics. There are two sets, under $9 each for hours of gentle guiding help. This book may be a good book to have with the MP3 set (of Ryan Nagy) Get Ryan Nagy's set first, and Feldenkrais can change your world. Because Feldenkrais is a wonderful way to relax your body into balance and good health. The title of this book sure has that right.
My Mom had frozen shoulders and was scheduled for surgery. I worked with her for two weeks doing the movements with her. By the time the surgery date came, she was pain free and could lift her arms and hand and comb her hair and did not need the surgery! She has been doing these movements everyday for the last 4 years and does not complain of any pain. She is 79 years old!
Believe it or not there are Feldenkrais practitioners all over the country. If you have the time and motivation to find one, I highly recommend to take a few lessons. But the book by itself is easy to comprehend and a good start.
There is also a Feldenkrais Institute near San Francisco where they have regular workshops. One of them that I know of is
The Milton H. Erickson Institute of the Bay Area, near San Francisco.
I have a scoliosis also a prostatis(Chronic pelvic pain syndrome). so I always feel back pain and leg pain.
The reason why I like this book is that it is straight forward, easy and effective.
These exercises is very helpful to get rid of every pain. I have several book about pain, yoga and somatic. But I think that it is best.
Because this book explain all sequence of exercise also there is picture for exercises.
