It was a story of second chances while simultaneously working through the MC challenges within the Jericho Brotherhood. I enjoyed the portion of the book when Rock and Avery fully accepted each other and a forever love. Rock and Avery then gelled and it became a sweet story.
Rock and Avery both had family, acceptance and abandonment issues that each had to work through. I liked parts of it but also had a hard time keeping up with some of the Brotherhood storyline. Hopefully we'll have more filled in as the series progresses.
Additionally, there was an interesting BDSM perspective. I found it intriguing but it's only recommended for those that enjoy reading BDSM combined with pain.
All in all, it was enjoyable and entertaining. It's not my typical MC book, but enjoyable none the less. I'm looking forward to future stories, such as Mark and Zero's. In the meantime, we finally have Jericho and Mar's story next in Deny.
I know that some people like to compare books within a series. I don't like doing that, nor would I be able to, considering how different this one felt for me. Not, different in a "I'm not sure if I liked it" way, different in a "this is so flippin' cool" way. Let me explain...
Now that we know that Lila, aka Big Mama is with Dare and living the biker life, we know a little more about the club, what they do and what they stand for. Remember when Avery (the girl who owns the clothing shop across from Marked Men) hooked up with Rock at the bar? Well things were good between them until she found out that Rock had his hands in hurting Lila that day in the night club/bar. So now everything is left in this limbo between Avery and Rock. Avery doesn't trust Rock and absolutely doesn't trust the club and the Brotherhood, yet is still attracted to him in a big way. So after having a conversation with Lila, Avery realizes that life is too short and maybe, just maybe, she's been judging things a little too harshly. So she gives in and allows herself to feel for Rock again. And that's when this story REALLY takes off.
You see, Avery has this issue with pain. It's taken her a very long time just to get inked. So when one of Rock's secrets comes to light, she's put in a very interesting and erotic situation that has her really looking at herself and Rock in a different light. SIDE NOTE: I LOVED THIS SCENE!!!!! Everything about it was beautiful and VERY well explained/done. Ok, back to the good stuff. Drama goes down in Avery's family that literally leaves her breathless, confused and trying to find her way....again. But Rock is so solid, he's the only family she needs...period. But the issue with the Avery trusting the club is still an issue, and a very big one.
This book is about so much. Finding ones self, helping those who matter in your life and most importantly acceptance. Acceptance in any and everything. The chemistry between the two is crazy beautiful, but the love they feel for each other is off the charts.
Another side note....I can't believe that this is only the second book written by this author. No really. My mind is blown. I've read two books within the same series and felt like I got two completely different, yet similar (character intertwining) stories. Well done Jade. Well done!
*I received this book from the Jeep Diva in exchange for my honest opinion.
I just have to say oh my goodness how I love this series!!! I had read enough and loved Dare. There was so much intensity in that book. This brotherhood is exactly what it is, a family what they do for each other shows through during the worst and best of times. Although everyone seems to have some type of troubled life they all seem to be able to find each other within the brotherhood. I loved seeing the characters from the first book. What has been happening and how they have grown from the first book. I just want to say Dare is not what I expected, he was so much more. When you come from two different worlds it can be hard. Making changes in you life are never easy but when you have to because you want to be with someone, well you will do everything possible to find a way. Something always seems to get in the way though, and makes you think is it really worth it? So when your past is holding you back are you going to fight your way through it or will you walk away.
Avery was such a strong character. She had a lot of daddy issues which is nothing to joke about. So she is not trying to be controlled by one certain biker. As this story moves on you see how Avery develops into this woman that not only needs Dare, but moves on from a past that was making her hide from her future. Avery shows you that you can be a strong woman and still be with a strong man. Dare, what can I say hes one of those bikers that you feel for all the way through this book. He felt he was never good enough, never stands a chance with the woman he wants and he doesn't know what he can do. Dare fits so well into this brotherhood and all he is looking for is to fit in with Avery. It's not going to be easy, two broken people with a past that shows its ugly head as they try to move forward, will they try to make it work, or will the past rule their lives. These two being broken and trying to mend their life is not an easy road. They will fail, they will succeed, and they will figure out what is actually best for them. These characters are so well developed that you want to see more of them, you want to see them strive and you need more from all the characters in the book.
I am so happy that this author was one of the ones that I get to review. Her books show so much depth and keep you wanting more to the very end. I can't wait to read more from her because not only do you get attached to the books she writes, you will get attached to the way she writes. I love biker books, but this one is more, the family that is built from this series will move you, and that is all you can ask when an author writes.
