Harper Bliss writes beautifully and is prolific, so she's spoiled me and many other readers. I'd never tell anyone not to read her work, but there's a dozen books she's authored that I'd recommend ahead of this one. This reader might be in a tiny minority, but mostly the book annoyed the hell out of me. I re-read it because I LOVED "About That Kiss" and the two main characters, Ava and Charlie, also appear in that book, which I enjoyed very much. Charlie can't make up her mind about anything for more than two minutes. She doesn't honor her own feelings. Her friends can take vicious shots at her and that's okay for some reason. She can be talked into or out of pretty much anything. She doesn't respect her own talent. Ava is much easier to take and her energy is very appealing, but once she gets hot and heavy with Charlie all the ambivalence gets hard to take. Charlie has some very legitimate fears and heartaches and constantly mocking them as though there's no basis in fact for those kinds of concerns was also aggravating. Even some of the erotic scenes -- always a Harper Bliss strong point - seemed mechanical. By all means, read Release The Stars, but don't judge an excellent author by this book. You may love it. Clearly many readers do, but please consider reading her many other excellent novels. Her French Kissing and Pink Bean series are wonderful, as are Next In Line for Love, Once Upon a Princess, and if you're up for something serious and transcendent, give A Breathless Place a read. This reader truly appreciates the fine work Ms Bliss provides and I'll keep reading everything she writes. Release The Stars was just not among my favorites.

so harper has set a goal for writing a book per month... for this year. i ordinarily wait with baited breath to read her books, but i admit this one was a bit disappointing and made me wish she'd given it 2 months. i can't even say for sure what put me off about it. was it the neuroticism of the main character charlie? was it how little i actually got to know of the girlfriend ava, (who seemed as if her coming out story might have been more real)? was it something in me that didn't relate to the story as much as usual?
i don't know.
the sex/love scenes were good, the friends liz and nick added color. even the devil eric was interesting and real. i think i just didn't really like charlie.
i still liked the book, and i would recommend it to anyone. it's easy to read and has harper's usual style. i'll just have to admit it wasn't my favorite. but don't read me wrong... even a 4 star book by harper is better than most other writer's best effort. and i know i'll read it again. and i'm sure i wouldn't even be disappointed in this one if i didn't like her other books as much as i have. but harper has set the goal high, and now i expect it.

Another great story that captivates and brings an amalgam of emotions to those readers who can become part of the story. Release the Stars will make you laugh with the quirky comments and actions of the characters, but their broken hearts will also make you sad. I’m sure other readers will be able to identify themselves, as well as their friends, with the character influencing Charlie’s life. Who hasn’t experienced a broken heart? This book offers several opportunities to say “yeah, been there, done that”. Charlie got her heart broken by Jo, who felt she had her heart broken by Charlie, who almost broke Ava’s heart, twice! In the mean time, Charlie sabotages herself by going on a date with Josie, who instead of a broken heart gets seriously disappointed! Eric also gets his sad story- but since he pissed me off, you’ll have to read the book to get his tale… Also, who doesn’t have a gay friend that sometimes makes you wonder if he loves you or hates you instead? Or friends like Liz, who becomes the voice of reason, but always with a gentle enough perspectives? Charlie is a lucky girl who is loved by others, but broken enough to endanger the love she wants to give. In order to offer the unconditional love that will change her life, Charlie will have to learn to love herself. Happy reading!

I'm a big fan of Harper Bliss so I was excited about this book and wanted to love it. I have Kindle Unlimited but I bought the book anyway just to support the author. Unfortunately, I couldn't love it. Harper's writing quality is good, but I felt there could have been so much more to this story. My main problems are the Charlie character's neuroticism-- I'm used to this from Harper but it was not balanced enough here with qualities to make someone like Ava fall in love with her anyway. And then there was the characters being crazy for one another after very few interactions, most of which involved Charlie's neuroticism spoiling things. And then there was Ava. I realized at the end of the book that I didn't know much more about Ava than I was told in the book blurb (other than that she is a tremendously understanding and patient person). Where did she come from (born in the US or did she emigrate from Latin America), what was her past, what makes her tick, does she have a single flaw, was she partially in love with Charlie already just from reading her books? Will still support Harper on the next one... hoping what gets billed as a full novel will not feel more like a short story next time!

The character's in the book make you want to scream and tell them to put their heads on 'straight'.
But this book spoke to me in other ways, as I could relate to Charlie and her ability to screw up new relationships because of previous experiences, just wished I could have gotten out of my own head. Thank you Harper
