Releasing Hannah follows Hannah, a woman scarred by her past and unsure of her place in the world of Dominant and submissive erotic play. It seems what she experienced with her 'family' within the club scene five years previous sent her running scared but her need to release her inner self and understand where she fits into the lifestyle, as well as correlate it to her past experiences of abuse, brings her 'home'. This is where she meets her Dom and this short but sexy read allows the reader to dip their toes, so to speak, into some of the practices and follow Hannah on her journey to learning about the consensual lifestyle and whether this is something she desires.
The sub-plot is interesting and gives background into Jonas, Hannah's Dom, and his life outside of the club scene and allows us to see Hannah and Jonas have a committed 'power neutral' relationship outside of D/s play while also allowing us to see the complete submission of Hannah under Jonas's skilled hand. The sex is hot and well written but in actual fact the most interesting part of the book for me personally is the love story and the tenderness shown rather than the stereotyped 'punishment' scenes we often see in BDSM novels that feel too voyeuristic and not in a good way! Jonas and Hannah develop a loving relationship and it is through this and the safety they provide one another that allows them to evolve within the lifestyle.
My only issue with the book is that I felt it finished too soon. As things were getting resolved I found myself at the end of the novel and wanting more from Hannah and Jonas. This being a short stand alone novel I am going to have to use my imagination and although TL Reeve leaves us with a HEA ending, I feel like there is a huge gap where an interesting story following Jonas and Hannah and their growth as a couple could have evolved. That being said, I am happy all of the story line itself was resolved and I am not left scratching my head wondering what happens next.
Some great writing and gives some food for thought.....as my favorite line in the book states 'Whenever you feel froggy enough, leap' and that should definitely be the case with this book. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed and you may learn a thing or two....I know I did!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When I read the excerpt of this book in Star Crossed, Teaser Boxed Set: Eight Steamy Excerpts I honestly didn't think I would like it. I couldn't have been more wrong. The book that had started out as the one I least looked forward to reading in the full-length version of the anthology turned out to be one of my favorites. The book had a lot more to it and had far tamer BDSM sex than I would've thought. The sex scenes were definitely steamy. While there was absolutely the BDSM component, it didn't delve too far into any sort of pain play (of which I'm not much of a fan). In addition to great sex, the book featured an excellent romance between Hannah Edumnds and Jonas Raphael. While their romance moves very quickly, you can definitely tell how much they care for one another and then love one another. While the romance featured in the main portion of the book only takes place over a short span of time, we do get to see a couple of glimpses of both Hannah and Jonas' pasts and also get to fast forward a year to their wedding in the epilogue. I really enjoyed getting this full picture. Once I got into the book, it kept me hooked. The story has a little bit of a bunch of different things: sex, romance, danger, intrigue, love, friendship, and a bit of a mystery. It managed to make me laugh on multiple occasions. The one downfall to the book for me is that I felt some of the BDSM aspects could've been better explained. Speaking as someone who has absolutely no experience with that lifestyle (or sex style), there were things that confused me. It didn't keep me from enjoying the story, though. Overall, this book is a happy one with a HEA ending and no cliffhanger.
