When it's magnetic, there really is no escape. One can try to ignore the gravitational pull, but until that instinctual and animalistic need is filled, it will continue to wreak havoc. How long would you ignore that pull? How far would you go to keep your darkness from escaping? All it takes is one perfect moment and one perfectly flawed person to unleash that animal desire to take over.
If all you ever heard throughout your life was "you'll never be good enough", the words would remain stuck forever in your head and etched on your heart, and you would spend your years believing you would never amount to anything and no one would ever love you.
For Jason Chamber, he's spent his life hiding. He shields a part of himself as to not let anyone see how much darkness he really carries. Not even his band mates know of the empty part of his soul he wishes could be filled. He doesn't get close, it's not in his cards to open himself up for any kind of relationship.
For Peta Ellington, having a man in her life is like one train wreck after another. She feels mostly used and neglected by those who have proven unworthy because eventually, they leave for something better, but when Peta meets Jason, she recognizes something in him that she wants to awaken, to make him see how perfectly flawed and beautiful he really is.
Two slightly bent hearted people find solace in each other even if they try to keep it casual and non-feeling because emotions just get in the way and make it messy and complicated. However, one can only go so long before walls built up for a lifetime come crashing down and every single hidden emotion begins to surface.
Jason has let Peta under his skin, only after one night, her memory plagues his mind. "Peta is one classy chick. I've never been this drawn to a woman before. In fact, it's quite unsettling." She's different. She makes him feel different.
Peta has in turn let Jason etch into her, she still remembers every part of him being mixed with every part of her.
Their drive is there under the surface, lying dormant and waiting to push through.
Their passion is there vibrating their souls.
I can understand their timid steps and barely putting their toes in the water. I loved the push and pull of Jason and Peta. It was a constant struggle, back and forth and the uncertainy of their relationship that held me. I found myself rooting for these characters knowing that opening yourself up and letting your guard down is one of the scariest things in the world for a person who chooses to metaphorically stay hidden.
But once the walls come down and the light shines through, it really is the most beautiful and most peaceful feeling.
This story wasn't any different, it had all the feels and I couldn't ask for more. I've been following the author from the beginning and I really have to say her writing and her books have evolved so much and I really cannot wait to see what's next in store! If you haven't read her books yet, please do. I promise you won't regret it!
Jason is the drummer in the band and lives for music. He hasn't had an easy past and doesn't want a relationship because of it. But when he and Peta have a one night stand, something shifts. Even though the chemistry between them is off the charts, he doesn't seem to be willing to take a chance and let Peta in his heart. And when his pasts comes back to haunt him, he'll have to decide whether or not he is finally going to fight for what he wants...
I highly recommend this entire series!!
Jason is the drummer for JINKS. He has watched his bandmates find the loves of their lives and settle down. But from the day he was born, he was made to believe that he was not worth loving. Abusive addict parents made him feel worthless and that carried over to his adult self. He was content to the random groupie hookup. But then one night with Peta has started to change his way of thinking. Now all he can think of is his little Fireball. But his past threatens to ruin everything.
Peta has had her heart broken too many times. She is convinced she isn’t good enough for any man. But with what was supposed to be just one night with Jason has turned into daily thoughts of the hunky drummer. Still convinced she is not good enough for him, the two manage to keep being pulled together but her heart is on guard. She can’t take it being shattered by Jason.
I love a good rocker series and The Downtown Series is at the top. TJ West brings her characters to life and makes you fall in love with everyone involved through her writing and passion she puts into stories. Already a fan, she just solidified why I fangirl over her. She knows how to rock your world. Thank you TJ West for bringing us Jason. I can’t wait for others to fall in love with him.
