Addi may come across as being flighty with not a care in the world and an attitude like that of a playboy who only does one-night stands. But deep down, she is a soul that was once devastatingly broken and determined to never let it happen again which leads to her shutting her heart down completely to even the idea of love. Carter is broken in a different way that has to do with an occurrence that happened to his sister several years back, but left traumatizing scars on him because he felt it was his fault that he wasn't in time to do something for her. He's determined not to open his heart up only to having it being torn by not being able to be there for someone he loves. But when these two come together, the chemistry is explosive and from the first moment, it scares both of them to no end of the depths that they feel for each other. Addi tries to convince that all she feels is a powerful lust for Carter. Carter is convinced that all he needs to do is sleep with her a few times to get her out of his system. They both try to mask the true feelings that each feels for the other.
The broken souls meshed in these two character's hearts realize they may've found something in each other. But the physical side of them continues to try and deny it. Addi becomes frustratingly agitating when Carter finally starts to realize that he has very strong feelings for her. She is way too good at self-sabotaging herself, and while it's understandable under the circumstances of what she went through, as the reader you just want to reach into the book and shake her to get herself some help, because what she thinks is getting over what happened to her is more damaging than anything. And thank goodness for Lily. While Lily had her issues in Flawless, Lily gave flack right back to Addi when she figured out Addi was sabotaging the developing relationship between her and Carter. Granted Carter was a known playboy, but the interest was there and he was showing her different, sweet ways, the things he did for Addi....and she just kept pushing him away. To Carter, he felt they were just becoming toxic to each other. They both did have terrible ways of trying to get over each other such as sleeping with other people, and of course they felt like garbage afterwards. It usually always comes down to this...until you fix yourself and are happy with who you are as a person, you won't be happy with anyone else.
The supporting characters in this story were the driving force to getting these two to face the underlying issues that Carter and Addi were going through. When something happens after Addi has a wonderful time in Italy with Carter and his family, she shuts herself back down, yet again, when she really should've been talking to Carter about things going on. I had to hand it to Carter for how many times he kept trying. The moment he realized he was in love with her, he couldn't find it in himself to give up no matter how many times Addi was trying to sabotage what they had.
The end had me practically glued to my Kindle, holding my breath for the outcome. It was sobering, scary and I admit, I shed a tear or a few...
Relentless was a great second book to the Manhattan Knights Series. Sienna Parks knows how to get into the meat of things and twist at your heart a bit.

The characters are so very well defined and complex. You feel their joy, their lust, they pain.
They are hot, steamy and a pair that are so perfect for each other, one who will move mountains to be with the love of their life, the other so scared to make a committment that they runaway, because they are afraid of being rejected. Carter and Addi will have you laughing, crying and just wanting more. These are two people who both need to learn from the things that have happened to them in their past and move forward to make their present everything that they want and deserve.
Only one other Author, one other book has envoked emotions that has stayed with me days after I read it, and this book makes the second. I highly recommend this book and urge everyone to take a chance on it, and keep the tissues nearby.
I loved Carter in the beginning, but the more he talked, the more I began to dislike him. He called every woman he slept with a slut, but he was the biggest slut of them all. I don't like the obvious double standard to which he held the women, but not himself.
I think the book is too long. I agree with others that there are too many break-ups and make-ups; at one point it just started to feel like filler. This book could have been 200 pages shorter and still conveyed the same message.

Addi starts off as a party animal and a bit of a player her best friend has moved out of the apartment they shared and in with her boyfriend but when she meets carter he is just another one of her hump and dumps or so she thought she has a attraction to him she cant or won't take hold of thanks to her past she puts a wall up between her and any potential relationship and she never goes back for seconds but her feeling for him are strong and she don't know what's happened but she keeps pushing him away anyway she can't let him in.
