BUY this one before you buy any other cheap model that takes replaceable batteries. This has it's own rechargeable battery so you NEVER have to worry about the alarm NOT working if the power goes out.Take it from me. I'm on steady oxygen day and night. If I'm sleeping and the power goes out,my oxygen shuts off and with out an audible device I'm screwed. Fact being I would probably die in my sleep if I did not have something to wake me up so I could start my other portable o2 concentrator, as it runs on battery. Remember if you purchase a unit that takes a 9 volt, double A's, triple A's, they still will have a cord or plug directly into120 volt outlet and once plugged in for quite sometime the batteries can die.The alarm relies on the battery back up to sound the alarm.NO BATTERY, NO ALARM. MY opinion: For the price range THIS IS FAR THE BEST ALARM OUT THERE. Thanks

After testing it plugged into a surge protector to cut power with the switch, the alarm is very obvious if you are in the same room or if the door is open, but less noticable if you are in another room next to the room where the alarm is wth the doors shut. I don't have a dedicated power outlet that is near the freezer, so I use an extension cord with multiple outlets. The alarm is plugged into one outlet of the extension cord and the deep freezer is plugged into another outlet next to the alarm. I have this setup in my garage about 15 feet away from the interior door to the garage. With the door shut, i can barely hear the alarm sound when I am 10 feet away on the other side of the door. In my opinion if the alarm was louder than 100 dB it would be much better. 78 dB is just a little to low for my purpose. I would like to clearly hear the alarm at least half way across my house with it setup in the garage.
If you have this setup inside your house, like in the kitchen or an interior room, then I am sure it would be more than acceptable. The garage door is typically metal insulated or a solid wood door. The garage also has insulated walls and this helps insulate sound more than an interior wall or door.
I also suggest this company make a smart version of this unit that includes the alarm and also sends push notifications to email or an app. That way I can be aware if power is cut away from home or in the event that I cannot hear the alarm when I am at home.

I purchased this product to act as a deterrant and notification to family/friends that accidentally unplug the extension cord powering the deep freezer. I have lost a freezer full of food two separate times because of this problem.

It works great, but should be louder for garage use.

GFI trips every few years and I lose all the food in the freezer in the garage. This is the perfect gizmo to insure you know when the power to an outlet goes out and you can quickly reset the circuit before your ice cream melts. Anyone who says it isn't loud enough has lousy hearing. I won't hear it upstairs but I will 100% hear it if I walk by the garage door which I do 10 times a day.

I have an extra refrigerator located in my garage and wanted to have an indication in the house if the power failed on that circuit. Since my dining room receptacles are on the same circuit as this refrigerator, I plugged the alarm into one of those receptacles. By coincidence, the first day I had it plugged in, the alarm went off in the middle of the night and awoke me. Sure enough, I had a power failure, although in this case it was a complete loss of power. Even though the alarm is located 2 rooms away from my bedroom, it was loud enough to awaken me. The flashlight part of it emits a decent amount of light as well. I'm happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others.

The sockets behind my refrigerators are GFCI protected, and circuits are AFCI protected. The GFCI outlets, and these alarm units, are above the counter. The AFCI breakers are in the breaker panel. A few times, either the GFCI or the AFCI has tripped, and power to the fridge turned "off".
Once, we lost several hundred dollars worth of food. Since then, these noise-makers have helped us catch it in time. These things cost a _lot_less than a whole fridge worth of food.
They don't last forever. The battery will wear out after several years, particularly if the power goes off a lot. So plan on replacing them every 3 to 5 years. The first units wore out after about 7 years, and I have replaced them once. (We have 2 fridges, on separate circuits, so 2 of these units.)
The sound is loud enough to be heard throughout our 1-story house, from the outlets in the kitchen. It is not so loud as to be obnoxious. For a freezer in the garage, or maybe a 2-story house, I would recommend looking for a louder alarm.

After experiencing a loss of power in a wine cellar I bought this to "sound the alarm" should it happen again. Nice little unit that should do the trick but unfortunately doesn't. The alarm level is WAY TOO LOW for this to be of any value. The package clearly states that the alarm is 78dB but I now notice that the online description never mentions this despite listing nearly all of its characteristics. The alarm is also very high pitched. This combination results in an alarm you can only hear if it is in the same room as you are... hardly what you want in an alarm.

Handy little unit

Has worked reliably during the few power outages we have had. Beeping is plenty loud enough to wake you as long as you are in the same room , and provides plenty of light to get you around to take any emergency measures you need to take. I have a sump pump, so certain times of the year I really need to be woken up during power failure. Well worth the money.
