4.0 out of 5 stars Could have included the $0.47 o-ring
By Nick on August 24, 2017
Plastic seems thin, but I'll be careful with it, at least it makes the water level visible at the gradient lines marked on the side. My main gripe, which I noticed right off the bat, is the lack of a seal on the spigot.

I read the other reviews, everybody says the spigots leak. But so does every other water carrier spigot on the market that I've seen, so what then? I looked at the cap, there is a nice thick rubber gasket seal in there. Cool, so that won't leak. The spigot has a nice flange at the base of the threads, and the surfaces on the cap match up nicely. As if it was designed to have an o-ring there... Well, knowing that this would be a leak point, I went to the hardware store with it and matched one up. 7/8" ID, 1/8" thick was a perfect fit. I filled it up and placed it on it's side with the spigot pointing down, not a single drop in an hour. 47 cents was my cost, your local hardware store may be cheaper, a bulk order for someone mass producing water carriers would surely get them cheaper...

So there is that.

56lbs of water filled up, not for the weak folks. A 5 gallon carrier is 40lbs, that's a bigger difference than it sounds. Time will tell on the thin plastic, but as long as it doesn't get dropped or knocked around too much, I think it will be fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great water storage containers at a reasonable price
By Dafishy1 on November 21, 2018
I purchased 8 of these containers. I'll use 4 regularly for storing salt water for water changes in my aquarium and the other 4 will be kept for emergencies (e.g., hurricane) in case we need to stock up on fresh water. These containers have a convenient feature where they come with a spigot that can screw into the cap from either the inside or outside. You would screw it in on the outside for dispensing water. You can screw it on the inside for storing water and not having the spigot protruding.

The containers are built so that they can stack and interlock with each other. BUT ONLY STACK THEM WHEN THEY ARE EMPTY! When filled, the container could weigh close to 60 pounds. The weight would damage the container under it. I got a heavy duty cart from Sears that can handle the about 500 pounds so I can easily roll the 4 containers around the house for water changes.

For the containers that I use for water changes, I don't really need the spigot. Keeping it on the inside it could potentially be submerged in the water. I'd prefer not to do that. Keeping it screwed to the outside, it will collect dust and probably get in the way of handling the containers. For these containers, I've replaced the spigots with 3/4" PVC threaded plugs. They can be screwed either to the outside or inside. Screwing it on the outside will keep the threaded part dust free, but it protrudes from the container. I decided to screw the plug on the inside and keep the label on the outside to act as a dust cover for the threads. If using these PVC plugs, wrap it with one to two layers of Teflon tape (used for plumbing). Carefully screw it in so that you don't strip the threads on the cap. Don't over tighten the plug, just make it tight enough so water won't leak out if the container was on it's side.

There are other water storage containers out there that are smaller (e.g., 3 gal, 5 gal) and stackable when filled. I would have preferred those with the stacking capability; however, the shipping to Hawaii made it unfeasible. It was more than the container itself.

Overall these containers should suit my purpose just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Large size and easy to adapt to hose.
By beechridge on June 11, 2019
As a fulltime RVer, I carry several of these for camping in the more remote places. I was able to adapt the caps so that I can hook a hose to them and fill my rv tank without having to lug the tank out of my car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for camping, home use
Reviewed in Canada on August 6, 2018
I really like these containers, they work really well in our RV/ camping setup. We have a soft sided one that frustrates, while this container is solid, stays put, holds tons of water, and is easy to operate. We have two of them and store them in the front of our RV for extra water and drinking water while off-grid/ boondocking. Recommended.
