This is a very clean book, and probably would be really enjoyable to younger readers as well as older readers who need a quick, enjoyable read for an hour or two in an afternoon.
Just from reading all my buddies' reviews on Goodreads, I knew I was going to enjoy this. Sarcasm? Cake? Grumpy godfathers? COUNT ME IN.
Fortunately, it was just as good--if not better--than I thought it would be. The characters were absolutely phenomenal, the dialogue hilarious, and the writing top-notch. I laughed out loud...more than my family would have liked. *cough* And I melted into a puddle of happiness during the ending scenes. <3
I loved how Allison retold the story of Cinderella in a way I've NEVER heard it told. Yet I enjoyed the fact that it still rang true to the original story, feeling new and familiar at the same time.
Loved this story so much! I honestly just want a collection of Burndee short stories now. *stares pointedly at Alli* XD
Burndee was hilarious and I enjoyed his little quirks, though how Colin and Ella put up with him is beyond me. :P But really, all the characters were great and I loved the fresh little twists on the original story. It was a fun, quick read with some great quotes. It was "neat".
If you love fairy tale retellings, then I definitely recommend this one!
I read it in two hours, not only because it was short, but because I couldn't pull myself away from my Kindle. The writing style was beautifully easy to read, the characters were endearing, and I can easily say that this was one of the most original takes on the Cinderella story that I've ever read (and I've read a lot of retellings).
Burndee was simultaneously relatable and humorous, and while he at times could be a smidge annoying, I still related to his sometimes cantankerous mood. Ella was wonderful and so sweet, and honestly I aspire to be her. Colin got a bit under my skin at points, but he was still fun to read about.
The twist at the end... I didn't see it coming!
I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of fairytales, clean retellings, or simply a fan of sass, reluctant love, or cake. Because there is so much cake.
Five out of five stars from me!
My only critiques would be that I did guess how things would end pretty early on in the story (Though maybe that was just me. I'm usually pretty quick to pick up on things like that.) I also found myself skimming a little bit towards the middle of the story, not because it was boring, but because some of it was so similar to the original narrative, and I wanted to get to the parts that were different.
Otherwise, this story was very enjoyable, and I especially loved the twist at the end. :)
