"...dark but gripping...an unquestionably scary, well-established villain, and...a sympathetic victim whose safety is always in question." --Kirkus Reviews
"...a strong introduction to this series. ...The book is fast-paced, but never feels rushed. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a solid suspense story." - Majanka Verstraete I Heart Reading
About the Author
Hannah Holborn’s rehabilitation work with trauma survivors inspires her dark and addictive suspense novels.
I chose this rating because this book is so well written. You feel for every character in the story. Hannah really hits the nail on the head with her portrayal of some of the children. I look forward to reading more from this author. Don't bypass this book.
There were a few typographical errors, so I’m going to assume it was self-published. As self-published novel, it was actually pretty good. I appreciate the way that she worked on the story instead of getting caught up on the gruesome details of the child’s plight, which a lazier writer could have easily relied on for filler. The one thing that I found truly annoying about the book is the obvious British-isms. The crumpets for breakfast, the parents that met “at university” instead of “in college”, the “grade fours” instead of the “fourth graders”, but mostly that the small town in the story has the highest number of Elvis impersonators in the Western US. I wonder if she’s heard of Las Vegas. I won’t try to poke holes in the story because a story is meant to take us away from reality for a couple of hours, but at least make your background realistic. Write about what you know. There is no shame in a story placed in England.
However, that one annoyance aside, not a bad way to spend a couple of hours and she didn’t kill off the dog, so I’m happy with the way it ended. I’d read more of her work.
Hannah's story of painful love and hurt filled love was both humbling and challenging. What is it about the need for love that will silence us and cause us to endure pain, brutality and not seek freedom or escape from abuse? Yes, social services should have taken Gabriel, because unfortunately a mothers love wasn't a nurturing , protective love....Thus causing me to ask what is love?
This was a great novel. I could barely put it down. It had so many twists and unexpected things happening. I really enjoyed the characters in this novel. Well written book. Most definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great novel. Looking forward to reading more novels by this author. Keep up the awesome work!
This book is well written and well edited. It is always nice to read something that doesn't have hundreds of mis-spellings and grammatical errors. The plot works for me and most of the characters seemed believable. Although I did not give it five stars it was a good book and I would have no problem recommending it.
Full of suspense and intrigue. Gives the reader a glimpse into the minds of abused people and how they become the people they are. One can't blame them for some of their actions, but it's hard to understand and find forgiveness. How sad that this terrible cycle repeats itself. Well written, definitely want to see what happens to Chase, there is another story to be told. Would have been nice to hear more on Harvey and Tony and how she became a foster mom, it ended rather quickly. Glad there was a happy ending for Gabriel and radar.
Unfortunately children are adjusted every day. This told a little boy that had more trouble in a life time then most people he I'd stolen away and is on the run with the kidnappers .He suffers many ways. It has a lots of characters in the stories. This is a powerful story that you won't want to miss.
Loved this book. Def a unique story. Doesn't follow usual patterns so it is more interesting bc you can't just guess at the details or endings. Love the characters. Especially Gabriel and Chase. I'd love a follow up on Gabriel as a child and later as an adult also. Thank you for giving us this awesome story and for free!!! I'm always so excited to find such amazing gems esp that r free. Not to be a cheapskate bc u all deserve money but bc I'm super poor but love to read lol. Take care. And please keep rating and reviewing bc it's the least we can can do to support amazing authors and books! Peace.
