"Shauna Letellier is establishing herself as a writer who can not only identify and clarify deep feelings and questions, but also bring Biblical meaning and help to people who need it. In Remarkable Hope, she again pinpoints specific disappointed people in the Scriptures and gives us a glimpse of what God might be about in their lives. And that is the genius of this book: We see God at work reviving hope in troubled hearts, troubled times.
Invitingly written, you'll find it hard to put down; and your soul will drink in these life-giving words. Shauna uses Biblical characters to show us our own need. She selects theological thinkers to reinforce application for us. This is a blend of substance and emotional connection, perspective and deep passion, help and hope."―Gregory C. Carlson, Ph.D., Chair and Professor of Christian Ministries and Leadership, Trinity International University
"In Remarkable Hope, familiar biblical stories spring to life with new power and perspective, and a newfound hope takes root in the life of the reader. Letellier has done it again!"―Cindy Lambert, co-author of Unplanned
"I read Remarkable Hope during a season of being blindsided by gut-wrenching disappointment. I'd lost more than hope: I'd lost all sense of direction. Vicariously experiencing Jesus reviving hope in these vividly retold Bible stories helped me regain footing in my own new narrative. In the tender places where your heart is broken, Shauna is a trustworthy guide, gently leading you toward healing, hope, and surprising joy."―Cheri Gregory, co-host of the Grit 'n' Grace podcast & co-author of Overwhelmed and You Don't Have to Try So Hard --This text refers to the paperback edition.

I think we’ve all experienced disappointment in our lives, to varying degrees, and wonder if we can still remain hopeful. Remarkable Hope emphasizes that no matter the depths of disappointment we encounter, Jesus is our Living Hope. Shauna walks the reader through the layers of hope within each Biblical story, in the chapters of Long-Expected Hope, Questioning Hope, Redirected Hope, Despairing Hope, Delayed Hope, Doubting Hope, Unimaginable Hope, and Confused Hope. I love how Shauna goes deep into the Bible stories and captures the essence of what each person struggled with and also keeps the reader fully immersed and vividly engaged within the storylines.
The chapter on Delayed Hope, the story of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, really resonated with me. How many times have I felt my prayer requests were being denied or going unanswered, but actually they were lovingly delayed in God’s perfect timing?
I love these quotes from the book, “Christ’s unhurried work is always the result of his love.” “When the wait is over and his glory is magnified, we will find our hope has not been denied, only divinely delayed.” And “It’s in the waiting, when we can’t imagine how God could accomplish his plan, that we must trust his timing and infinite wisdom.”
I truly loved Remarkable Hope! It refreshed my spirit and unearthed aspects of my relationship with Jesus I hadn’t considered before. I feel I have a better understanding of the Biblical stories and the depth and breadth of God’s love. I think you’ll come to love Shauna Letellier’s beautiful and powerful writing style and her messages of hope, the hope we all so desperately need. I was blessed by Shauna’s amazing book of Remarkable Hope.
There are eight stories included in the book: (1) Simeon, (2) John the Baptist, (3) a demon-possessed man, (4) Jarius, (5) Mary, Martha and Lazarus, (6) Peter, (7) Jesus’ Mother Mary, and (8) the two disciples on Emmaus Road. All these people hoped in Christ and experienced disappointment, confusion, and devastation… and in all of these instances Jesus transformed their disappointment into something beyond what they expected or imagined.
I’ve wrestled with the meaning of hope and the ways we throw the word around in insignificant ways. But what Shauna offers is not a shallow hope. It’s a deep, significant hope, grounded in a Savior who promises never to leave us or forsake us.
If you are a new Christian, diving into the Bible for the first time, this would be a great book for you to begin to fall in love with Scripture. If you, like me, have read the stories many times, this is an amazing book to discover new details, to learn from a new angle and see with fresh eyes.
In her creative retelling how Jesus restored the hope in eight men and women of the New Testament, she teaches about particular hopes (long-expected, questioning, redirected, dispairing, delayed, doubting, unimaginable, and confused hope). What she adds in her retelling is culturally and historically appropriate. Her goal is that the readers learn how to apply this hope in their life-circumstances. The section at the end of the chapter that guides the reader toward an application and the prayer makes the book practical for the personal life.
The book is well researched with biblical references and notes that are provided. I recommend this bbok for everybody who needs a revived hope for their live. In spite of the fact that there is no study guide, the book is also useful to be studied in a group setting.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher free of charge, but I also bought the book. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
