This toothpaste was recommended by my dentist. If you suffer from chronic canker sores, this is one step to reducing them. There are many factors that can trigger canker sores, such as stress, eating acidic foods or having poor nutrition overall, menstrual periods, food allergies, or trauma (i.e., biting your cheek or lip).

The reason this toothpaste works is because it does not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, an irritating agent in most toothpastes. SLS has a drying effect on the protective surface of oral tissues. Once this protective layer has been compromised, the tissue underneath is more vulnerable to irritants such as acidic foods.

Try using this toothpaste for about one month and you will see a difference. A few years ago I always had canker sores, usually at least 3 or 4 at a time. I still get them occasionally, but not more than once a month. I am so delighted by the toothpaste that it is all I'll use, and if I try going back to normal toothpaste for even a week, I start to get canker sores again. I highly recommend it. I really do.

I had suffered from almost constant canker sores since adolescence. I started using this product in my 50's and have not had a serious outbreak since - and now I'm 63. If I do feel a bit of that warning "tingle" in my mouth, in spite of the Rembrandt, I take extra B-Complex vitamins, which makes it go away. The combination of Rembrandt and B-Complex has completely cured my life-long problem. Thanks, Rembrandt! (When on a month-long vacation in Italy recently, I ran out of my Rembrandt in the last few days and used my husband's Crest instead and guess what - almost instant canker sores!)

When I changed from a typical toothpaste to Squigle a few years ago, my canker sores went way down. After a couple years, I ran out of Squigle and bought a tube of this Rembrandt product because I could get it locally. Within a couple weeks, I had five active canker sores in my mouth at once. It was the worst I had ever seen in my life. I finally thought to try removing the toothpaste, even thought it has no SLS. So I started brushing with just water. Within 48 hrs, 2 of the sores were healing. Within another 48hrs, they were all healing. I went back to Squigle and I have not had a problem since (a couple months). If this product doesn't work for you, try Squigle (also available on Amazon). If you read their website, they suggest that there are several classes of materials that may lead to canker sore problems including detergents (like SLS), bleaches (peroxides), etc. For me, this product still appears to have something very troublesome, even thought there is no SLS.

I have always been prone to frequent canker sores. In addition to modifying my diet, like eliminating tomatoes and all citrus, using this toothpaste has been a life saver. I recommend it to anyone who suffers from canker sores. I won't use another toothpaste. Tastes great, too.

This is a good product, but it's expensive. In fact, it's been eliminated from the market. The manufacturer claims another of its formulations on the market is the same as the old formula. I suggest instead trying Sensodyne Pronamel Gentle Whitening Formula. It's less expensive. CVS also makes a gentle whitening toothpaste for sensitive teeth, which is just as good as the Rembrandt brand and much cheaper. Neither Sensodyne Pronamel Gentle Whitening formula nor CVS Enamel Guard Gentle Whitening formula contains sodium laurel sulfate, which can cause canker sores. I'm sure there are other toothpastes that don't contain sodium laurel sulfate on the market. Be sure to read both active and inactive ingredients. The sodium laurel sulfate is listed as an inactive ingredient.

I have had canker sores for as long as I can remember, well more than 10 years. I would get them one after another, usually with no more than a couple weeks between them. It was terrible. I finally had enough and set out to eliminate anything that would cause them, even if it were my diet. Fortunately this was the first thing I tried and it has worked so well. I have used it for 3 months now and haven't had a sore yet. Never would I have thought that something in toothpaste could cause canker sores...seems rather ridiculous.

Gets 4 stars with absolutely no problem. The only reason it doesn't get five is the price. At 4 times the price per ounce, it isn't cheap. But I would gladly spend 8 times per ounce to never have a canker sore again. It is 100% worth that.

I started using this toothpaste several years ago as I am very sensitive to Sodium Laurel and Laureth Sulfate. This is the only toothpaste that helps. I have not gotten an outbreak of cancer sores since I started to use this item. My kids also use it. A note of caution here though, this item does not contain fluoride so a supplement of fluoride MUST be used. This may be a factor for those using this item due to cancer sores though because many fluorides/mouthwashes contain the Sodium Laurel and Laureth Sulfate mentioned above. We have well water so there is no natural water fluoride source.

My dentist recommended this toothpaste to prevent my painful canker sores. We could not find it in a store, so my husband ordered a case of it online. It worked great until they changed the formula to Gentle White- without telling us until the product was delivered. It is also extremely expensive. I wish they had continued this great product because I was forced to find another brand.
