Professional Groomers Styptic Powder for Pets
Professional Groomers Styptic Powder is a first aid product for pets that will stop bleeding caused by trimming your pet's (dog, cat, bird) claws and accidentally clipping too far back, which nicks the blood vessel in the claw (nail).
Doing so can result in a rush of blood. Unlike human fingernails, dogs, cats and birds have blood vessels that run down the center of their thick claw.
This styptic powder has been used for many years by Professional pet groomers all over the world.
Cardinal, the company that makes it, has been in business since 1948. It is a company "Devoted to Pets, People & the Planet." Professional Groomers Styptic Powder is manufactured in our Solar Powered factory in California, USA. We use local suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of all our products.
Dipping the individual claw into styptic powder not only coagulates the blood and stops the flow. It creates a clog at the bottom of the vessel which also prevent bacteria from entering the blood vessel.

In fact, I saw this on a website dedicated to Puppy care (Puppies for Dummies) and I'm not recommending or endorsing that site, but as an instructor I believe in giving credit when quoting:
"Take extreme care to avoid cutting into your puppy’s quick (the tissue part of the nail, shown in the figure). Aside from being excruciatingly painful, the cut will bleed for hours because the quick has lots of veins. To prevent excessive bleeding, purchase a clotting solution like styptic powder from your veterinarian. It works like magic."
