This is another beautiful book by Dawn Eden! This book is for everyone, because, in life, we have all been hurt, and we have all hurt others. Through the wisdom of St. Ignatius, Peter Faber, and Pope Francis, and the wisdom and wit of Dawn, we can find healing in painful memories and learn to be people of forgiveness. After reading Dawn's book, I feel the same way as I do after reading books by Henri Nouwen, "if this book doesn't change my life, then shame on me."

This book takes you into a journey of spiritual healing: the healing of your memories. The teaching and history of Pope Francis leads the way where you are invited to surrender yourself to our Heavenly Father and dive into His mercy. They are not only abstracts ideas, but Dawn Eden, using many times her own life stories, provides many practical ways you can use this precious information

Dawn Eden's Remembering God's Mercy is a fantastic buy for anyone who has ever experienced any degree of trauma or disfunction in their lives, i.e., all of us. In a very readable and enjoyable manner, Dawn gives the reader an extremely balanced application of Catholic spirituality to the most difficult parts of our lives. You need not worry about whether she tries to smuggle in any pop-psychology and pass it off as Catholic tradition or teaching... You'll get none of that here. What you'll receive is a fantastic reflection upon Ignatian spirituality largely through the mind and words of Pope Francis. This book doesn't stop there, however. In Remembering God's Mercy Dawn Eden walks us through a needed spiritual growth in all of our lives by helping us understand the whole of our lives through the mind and wounds of the Glorified Christ. It is with great joy that I strongly recommend this book to all Catholic and Christian readers.

I first came across Dawn Eden on Eternal Word Television Network's program, Life on the Rock. As fate or faith would have it, an article appeared about her just a few days later in my hometown's weekly, The Hudson Reporter; so, I decided to buy her first book, the thrill of the chaste. I loved it; it is her most autobiographical of her three books. Not long afterward I bought My Peace I Give You, which is a compilation of reflections on the lives of several popular and less known saints; it, too, is a great read. When one gets to Dawn's third book, remembering God's Mercy, and leafs through it, as I did in one day (I couldn't put it down), one finds a refreshing voice echoing eternal truths. I love how Dawn seamlessly integrates her observations and graces with those of Augustine, Aquinas, Ignatius Loyola, John Henry Newman, Peter Faber, Pope Francis and others to offer an explanation, and show the importance, of memory in developing an identity, particularly in God; it is a remarkable read. I felt as if I were being introduced to members of her spiritual family, and through her selection of "family", it modeled and affirmed the significance of remembrance. From a spiritual perspective the book does an excellent job of communicating the importance of memory for faith and identity. From a practical perspective, if we are to hold Dawn to her intention of making the message accessible to a wider audience (p.xii), a bit more could have been explored regarding biological conditions that impede memory. Amnesia is mentioned on pages 102-103 in just one paragraph, nothing about dementia or Alzheimer's. How do these "identity crises" reconcile with faith? How do they impact individuals, families and communities? Maybe a topic for a future book?Read more ›

Dawn Eden, a Catholic convert and theology doctoral student, offers a very personal book on how the Ignatian spirituality of Pope Francis can offer tools for healing PTSD and trauma. Easy to read and well-sourced, this Year of Mercy book offers a nice blend of the author's personal experiences and theological reflection on Jesuit saints Ignatius of Loyola and Peter Faber. If you're a fan of this author's previous books, you won't be disappointed.

Remembering God’s Mercy is one of those rare books that combines personal testimony, theological insight, sound psychology, and prayerfulness all-in-one. Along with reading, I used this book for meditation for a week or two. It’s an amazing book that has to be comprehended as by whole chapters and not by lines. When I read a book, I often look for “pull quotes” I can use in preaching or post online, and despite being excellent, this book doesn’t specialize in that. Instead there’s a reflection over the course of four or five pages that awakens you to some new light but that light can’t be summarized in one line.

Dawn is a former reporter for several rock and roll publications and, obviously, a convert. She has suffered immensely in her life both from others – including childhood sexual abuse – and from her own sexual liaisons; so, I think her voice is particularly good for reaching those in our society who are hurting. Doctor Eden – okay, she got her doctorate just after writing this book – had previously written a book on healing from sexual abuse but expanded this to a much wider healing in this book, focusing on healing our memories. Dawn points us to go back to our memories before we were hurt and this led me to ask when you talk what to do if someone has a disability or a pain from birth so they have no memories prior to their suffering. I hope she writes a book on that in the future. Nonetheless, her current book is helpful all who’ve suffered, even for those of us who have not suffered major trauma in our life.

She begins by acknowledging the need people have both of psychological and spiritual help: “There is been a growing recognition in recent years that those of us who suffer the effect of painful memories need more than just psychological help.
