If you read the prequel, Sunkissed Days, and got to see their summer love, this story will warm you from the inside out. My heart broke at the end of that portion of their story and I was wondering how this continuation would go. Though we are picking up six years later I loved how we got to see both sides of the argument from all those years ago. As expected from the ending of a young love, there were things said and done that were - in hindsight - not the best move on both sides. Mallory threw her fit and when she realized there was more to the story and tried to backtrack, Jake pushed her away. Ultimately they both regret it but can they really move on?
I loved these two together. It broke my heart that Zeke passed on though I loved the poignant way that he did. Poor Jake had so much to deal with losing his mentor and feeling like everything was off in his world. Then Mallory came crashing back and rocked his world. It took Mal a bit longer than Jake to come around to things though I loved that her mom wanted to help and Jake talked her out of if. It was nice to see that Jake wanted him and Mal to make decisions for them - not for what everyone else might want. I did want to shake Mal a time or two for being so set in her life plan (though it was apparent that had been driving Sam crazy for years) and Jake for getting in his own way too many times.
When Sam finally seemed to come around and talk things out with Jake toward the end of the book it made my heart happy - I hated that those two had parted ways and it seemed like maybe they were going to be ok from here on out. Plus the unknown gift from Zeke was heartwarming and was something that Jake needed - being told once again that he really was family.
I could go on, but I won't...much. I loved this book and cannot wait to learn more about this world. I have so many questions about the town, the hurricane recovery, all the cousins (especially Mason), but most of all - I cannot wait for Sam's story! I absolutely recommend Samantha Chase's new series and suggest starting with the prequel - it helps paint a picture of Magnolia Sound and this world before tragedy strikes. You can get away with reading this as a standalone, but you won't regret reading them in order!
In the review of Sunkissed Days I said I hoped the Great-Grandfather would be a pivotal part of the series, Oh how I was wrong...Spoiler Alert!!!She kills him off in the sweetest way in this one so the only relationship he gets to influence in the series is Mallory and Jake. He does a really good job of bringing them together, but really...His death and a HURRICANE!!! I never give spoilers, but I couldn't say the next part without you knowing those two things.
Samantha gives us the perfect opportunity to see the town of Magnolia Sound change it's face, and allows the next generation to thrive and grow without us losing the past. When the town is nearly destroyed from the hurricane and Zeke's death everyone is given and opportunity for change, the buildings, the businesses, the business owners, pretty much all of it. It will be fun to see how she rebuilds this town and the relationships she feels need a story. I'm very excited for the upcoming books.
I'm giving this a 4.5 of 5 and if you wanted to start reading Samantha Chase, this is her at her finest moment and a great new series.
Remind Me is a story of young love and comes no of age. In Sunkissed Days, Mallory came across as someone who was spoiled & immature. She wanted Jake to change his plans while she didn’t give up anything. At the beginning of this story, I really didn’t think Mallory had grown up very much. She was remembering her side but not acknowledging the position Jake was in. As the story went on, you could see her viewpoint widening and maturing. The characters are well developed & inspire an emotional response in the reader. The plot moves at the perfect pace. The prose is descriptive enough that the reader can develop pictures of the scenes in their minds as they read. In the aftermath of a hurricane & the grandfather’s death, the scene is set for another terrific series.

Jake and Mallory became lovers six years ago on a long summer's holiday. However things did not go as planned and both broke up quite badly.
6 years later they meet again when Magnolia Sound is hit with a hurricane, causing destruction to the town but to their lives as well, because Zeke passes away the town's life and soul and also founder.
Mallory has been living in New York, working all hours given to get her promotion, which she does. However with Zekes death she is given two weeks to get all affairs in order.
Mallory returns from New York temporarily for the funeral and to help her mother with the house and Zekes things. Along the way she reconnects with Jake again, her first lover and Zekes next door neighbour.
Jake is heart broken with Zekes death. But having Mallory back has given him a second chance to reconnect and sort out their past differences.
They give their relationship another chance, but Jake is unhappy that yet again he has a time limit on their relationship. However this time he has life experience and maturity to deal with this in the right way, and one thing he is sure is he is not letting Mallory go.
Will their love be tested? Well they come out on top? That's only to be seen.
Along the way Mallory learns some home truths, Will this help her decide whether she wants to go back to New York or stay in Magnolia Sound.
You get to see and learn more about other people in this book. A fabulous read. The only downside was I think Mallory was too childish at times, when Jake was trying so hard at their relationship.
Can't wait for the next one A Girl Like You - 11/06/2019
