Product Description

Magnet wire is copper wire with a thin layer of insulation, and is used in a variety of applications including transformers, wound coils, motors, solenoids, and instruments. Raw copper is drawn to meet specific Size requirements based on the National electrical manufacturers Association (NEMA) standards. This magnet wire meets the NEMA mw-80-c standard for operating temperature (155°c/311°f) and insulation makeup. The insulation is made from modified polyurethane with a polyimide overcoat, and protects the coiled wire from short-circuiting.

You know what?

Mag Wire is copper wire with some kind of lacquer coating (to prevent shorting). This stuff is not high-tech, and it works just fine, as one would expect it should. I don't think there's anything better for my uses, but I feel really stupid evaluating wire. I mean, how could you screw up the manufacture of wire? Well yeah, you could screw up the lacquer insulation, but beyond that . . .

Used the wire to make an electromagnet with my granddaughter for her science project. Used sandpaper to remove the coating from the wire. Worked fine. More wire than one would need for this project but the right gauge.

Exactly what I expected accept the leading end of the wire is taped inside then coil so if you want to make a magnet with the coil as is, you have to unwind the whole thing to get to the other lead and then wind it back up which takes time and ruins the machine precision of the coil.

Wind your own, you can even make a motor with the stuff. or in my case a small proof of concept generator. however 24awg is pretty thick, so you can't get as many turns as a 42 awg wire will give you.

The wire itself is good but the way it was wrapped..It snapped as I was winding tattoo coils by hand with 2 lbs of tension and i couldnt find the end...it turns out it was under a bunch of wire and thats why it snapped in the first place..I had to literally destroy the plastic spool to find the end....and what a pain in the butt!! Other than that no complaints...I may or may not buy more from this company...
