Using curlers takes some practice! However, once you get it the curls come out great and stay all day. I have thick frizzy hair that I get a straightening treatment on to relax it, so my hair doesn't usually hold a curl for very long. I use a little bit of styling gel when blow drying and then put the curlers in. If I just want some body, I leave them in for a few minutes and remove. If I want tighter curls, I leave them in until they cool, remove the curlers, wait about 5 min, then hit it with a quick shot of light hold hairspray. I found out not to use a brush after or they don't always curl back up all the way, I just use my fingers to run through my hair.
A word of advice, don't leave the lid open once they heat up or they don't stay hot. I just open the lid long enough to remove one and then let it shut while I wrap. Also, there is no auto shut off, I forgot to unplug it once and realized it when I was going to bed that night and the light was still on.
**Picture shows my natural frizzy hair upper left, relaxed hair upper right, and styled with curlers both bottom pics. I almost never post pics of myself, so please be kind! I thought it might help someone looking to see if this is right for them.
I heated them with the lid closed. I waited maybe 5 min, then began. The white edges were a little hot, but it didn't burn me when I was rolling her hair, just hot. I figured it was that way because I left the lid down. My daughter has long thick hair, it took almost both roller purchases. I think I had 4 left before I used them all up. Once I finished rolling her hair, the bottom ones were ready to come off. The entire process took me 30 min. I really loved curling her hair this way, it felt so much faster, and less strain on my arm.
I find the curlers do get very warm - and sometimes may hurt your fingers just a bit when rolling them on but in my opinion nothing severe - maybe it just creates a sense of urgency to get that roller on, lol.
I got beautiful curls and can't wait to play around more with different ways to roll for different styles.
It comes with an instruction booklet with little tidbits on different styles and ways to roll.
I think the rollers are a decent size and have a good combination of different sizes for my hair (medium length and not super thick, yet not thin) and I only use about half of them I would say - I didn't really count). I'm sure I'll use more or less for different styles.
The metal clips do not have a place to store them but they come packaged in a small zip bag that you can put them in, and it fits nicely inside the case on top of the rollers.
There no place to store the cord, either, but it can wrap easily around the container and can be held with a small hair clip to keep it wrapped around.
The rollers are covered in a nice velvety material which helps hold your hair in place.
The metal clips work very well at keeping the rollers in place when the hair is rolled and does not leave any marks in your hair.
