This was a short, sweet read that contained some steamy scenes. It is the perfect thing if you are looking for something to finish in a day. I love books about guys falling for their best friend's little sister and this one did disappoint. There's just something about a secret affair that makes it that more juicy.
There is a big age difference between Daniel and Lucy that some people may find hard to believe. However, the age difference between me and my SO is 13 years so I don't find it hard to believe at all. That was another reason this book appealed to me so much. Also, the fact that there is a hot NYPD detective involved. Swoon.
Even though this story is so short, it packs a huge punch. It doesn't feel rushed and it is long enough to get the complete story without feeling like it's lacking. In all, it is exactly what I've come to expect from Zoe York.
This story is part of Melissa Foster's "Remingtons' Kindle World", is novella length and has a related story "Love on the Record" written by Zoe about Lucy's brother (who is Daniel's partner). I like reading things in order and would recommend you reading it first. Do you have to? No, the story will standalone without difficulty, that's just me.
I received an ARC for an honest review, however I always purchase my own books in addition and have done so.
This is another amazing read by Ms. York. It has a HOT NYPD Detective in it, I was sold just by that fact alone lol.... But this story for a short novel packs a BIG punch. It is a funny and romantic read. Ms. York does it again, her books and this one is so GOOD. ANOTHER FIVE STAR READ, Get it today!
Like I said, it's one of Ms. York's best tropes. Granted, no one (at least I don't imagine so) can take Dani and Jake from that top spot, but Zoe can keep trying.
For a super short read, I felt that LOVE IN THE CITY packed in all that is classic Zoe York -- strong characters, stronger dialogue, realistic settings. Lucy's "fake it till you make it" mantra starts the reader out strong, and it's that mentality that pushes Lucy through her life, as well as the pages. Add to the mix Lucy's big brother's good friend, much older than her, thirty-five year old Daniel, and life certainly gets interesting. I love watching the men battle their feelings in these stories -- be it they owe their friend something, or they feel terribly guilty, but watching as Daniel fought his attraction to Lucy was great.
For the amount of words she had to work with, this was definitely a great piece for Ms. York. It helps, I suppose, that Ms. York is the master of novellas, having a strictly novella series in her SEALS UNDONE series, so maybe that actually gives her an unfair advantage. However, because I know she can write a shorter story like nobody's business, I knew when I opened this story I would enjoy it.
