From the genre, we can guess it's going to be a love story. The synopsis let's us glimpse a little closer and see, okay...we're dealing with a ball player so "pitching" makes perfect sense. Another look and we see that Mia is a publicist, so she pitches for a living, so to speak. Oh buddy, but what you can't see or read between the lines is how all of these potential meanings and interpretations are going to blend together to deliver one heck of a story.
Mia (or should be say Bianca? *raises eyebrow*) is one great gal. She has her head on straight, knows where she's going, and how she's getting there. The only hitch in her plan comes in a completely irresistible package...and happens to be her new client. DOH! Well, they say hindsight is 20/20...though in this case, she should have hoped it was blind because that's the only way she's going to keep her rules in place, her defenses intact, and her heart protected from the likes of this player. Ah, yes. That infamous word "player"....but despite it's double meaning here, Evan is one of the good guys. Like Mia, he doesn't play games (well he does, for a living, but in love, he's straight forward) and whomever he's spending time with, knows the score. Usually it's more of a love-em-and-leave-em-mutually scenario, but this time...something feels off. Could it be that ONE NIGHT has defeated them both, or at least all the reasons why they shouldn't, couldn't, wouldn't be together? Or could it be something even bigger than them both....the big L...only time will tell, and it's ticking away FAST.
I have to say, I enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed Pulled By Love, and I've not ever read the series that sparked the novellas. They're sweet, yet sassy.Read more ›
Let’s face it. When you read a lot of contemporary romance, you sometimes feel as those you know what is going to happen when you have read a familiar plot, right? It’s those authors that are able to entertain you and make their version original that have you going back for more. Manemann does just that in Pitching For Love. I was turning pages like crazy and couldn’t wait for the next encounter between Evan and Mia to see what would happen.
The characters of Evan and Mia are well developed and likable. The author does a great job with the dialogue and emotions to show us who the characters are on the inside. I wanted the two of them to expand on their first night together and give it a shot so badly, yet, I completely understood why Mia had reservations and respected her for them. I would have done the same thing. But, the heart wants what the heart wants. We can’t always control that. I was glad to see that Evan was very persistent and he pursued Mia in all the right ways.
Evan and Mia are explosive together and I was glad we got a glimpse of that near the end of the book again. he flow and pacing of the book was spot on and my only wish was for it to be a longer story. If you are looking for an enjoyable, sexy contemporary romance, give Pitching For Love a try. You will love it!
Evan and Mia are such wonderful characters...and are definitely made for each other. Two very alpha characters, who are not ashamed to speak the truth or show their weakness.
After a one-night stand, that both Mia and Evan don't want it to be one night...they come to find that her new client and his new publicist are Evan and Mia (respectively). Lines are drawn and attempts at a platonic relationship seem to be hard to fully maintain, particularly on Evan's part. (Not that Mia is generally complaining; although she is really trying in public.)
Needless to say, their friendship blooms and their platonic relationship...needs more work, especially with two strong hard-headed characters.
I really enjoyed this novella from Amy Manemann. It is lighthearted, quick paced, and a simply enjoyable read. You will love the characters and the storylines...and yes, the HEA (which one can assume will never be dull with these two...)
