Absolutely magical and deeply heartfelt, Love on the Rocks can open up any heart to endless possibilities and undeniable hope. The torrid past that brings these beautiful characters together releases a perfect storm that ends in the rebuilding and healing of two shattered souls who have been waiting an eternity for the other. Their present collision allows for the quick and nimble winds of change to clear out the ugly baggage from years past and show them a beautifully peaceful and tepid shore calming and encouraging the new day dawning in the heart and the eyes of the other. While life can’t be erased, each day provides us with an opportunity to start anew and fresh. What a precious and wonderful gift that should never be taken lightly or ignored.

John is not able to handle the death of his wife, so in a vain attempt to escape her memory, he moves to a cottage in Cape Cod. The peaceful and tranquil effect of the sea only adds to John’s mounting guilt and anxiety. In a fit of overwhelming grief, he decides to drown it inside the salty arms of the ocean. What starts out as a soul crushing and heart wrenching ordeal ends up as his reason for living and fighting for another day. It took the courageous and reckless action of Roxi, the local bar owner, to jolt sense into him. Her courage jumpstarted his heart back to life, and he longs to learn how to live again. Roxi has hidden away from the world because of the deep scars of her past. She begins to feel things that she never has when John is around, and once she works past her initial fear, she boldly decides that she no longer wants to hide. Her determination leads her to become the reason that John wants to watch as many sunrises and sunsets as possible.

Love on the Rocks is the first book I have read in any of the Kindle Worlds. I have to say it was a different experience. It was fun and a little different to read another author's voice in another author's world.

John Decker has been through so much. He lost his wife in an accident which is survived. He's alive but just barley living. He's withdrawn and just living day to day, minute to minute missing his wife. I could feel this poor guys pain. He is so lost, lonely, and really just not sure what to do with his life.

Roxi Lanier has been tough a lot too. She has lost more than any young lady should have to deal with. She has grown into a strong, independent woman that can kick any one's butt if she needs to protect herself. However she still has fears and is leery of some situations. I admired Roxi from the moment I met her and learned of her past. This woman has lost so much in her life but is doing her best to live a full life. She does have a dear friend in her life that was her Dad's best friend. He has played the great roll of father to Roxi since she was a teen.

When these two lost souls meet each in the local bar there is an attraction. Neither is sure of how to handle the attraction until they are brought together through a very dramatic moment. They both try to fight their feelings. However situations seem to keep bringing them together. I really enjoyed watching these two people find a friendship and then explore their attraction.

Elle James truly is one of my favorite authors. The drama and the hotness is in this book is very typical Elle James style. Elle does a fabulous job of writing dramatic scenes that always have me clinging to the edge of my seat wondering how the characters are going to get out of the situation they are in.

As this story begins, we get a glimpse into the relationship Decker has with the Remingtons, as Kurt has returned to Cape Cod to help commemorate Decker's "alive day". It may be called "alive day", the day that Decker survives a car accident while his wife died, but Decker doesn't seem alive to me. He may be breathing but he is not living. He has hidden himself away on Cape Cod because he can't face the memories in New York. He has been mourning her death since the accident. The author masterfully depicts his grief and guilt over the loss of his wife. As "alive day" comes to an end, we see Decker heading out to swim in the rough surf and I'm not sure he hasn't decided that "not living" wasn't living at all and he has nothing left for him here.

Roxi is living on Cape Cod - hiding really - after being traumatized as a child. Roxi has come out of the trauma a strong woman except when it comes to men. She sees Decker heading into the sea and goes in after him and together they return to shore. I think that scene really demonstrates the true nature of their subsequent relationship - saving each other together. Throughout the story, the author draws parallels between the struggles that both Decker and Roxi are facing and they find that through each other they can come successfully out the other side. The author's character development is strong and the dialog and storyline is well balanced. I thought the subject of rape was sensitively addressed and Decker shows amazing sensitivity towards helping Roxi move forward in a healthy way. Through that, Decker is also able to move forward with his own life and admit he's ability to love again - with Roxi.
