I don't really know how to describe this book, but you should probably read it.
I read Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein when I was in high school (which was 21 years ago, holy crap!), and, though I only remember certain scenes and snippets that really stuck with me, this book reminded me of it, probably because similar themes are explored. I should read the Heinlein book again and see if my memory serves me correctly.
This books was just about as perfect as it gets. I will say, I felt a tad disappointed at the end because I wanted more definitive answers as to what the future held for all these characters I cared so much about. I realize, though, this may have been done intentionally, as the uncertainty and messiness that comes along with being human, and the wonder and beauty that is born of that, are central themes to the story. It made total sense for it to end the way it did.
Other than a few typos that must have escaped the proofreader, this book was pretty much immaculate. I wish I could unread it so I could read it all over again. My heart aches at the beauty. I feel lucky to have read it.
Character development, plot-line, and overall writing are very good. The futuristic detail is very consistent. Like all good science fiction, this book made me think about the future, particularly how society and our planet's conditions can push human evolution. A great read!
Renee is an intriguing and thought provoking page turner without being overtly in your face. I LOVED THIS BOOK AND CANT WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL!!!
