Renogy Won’t Stand By Their Products

I’ve been buying Renogy products for years. They work well and continue working. But I’ve found out that if a product is defective, they’ll leave you in the dark.

I bought this MPPT controller and it failed out of the box. It reads voltage from the PV but fails to charge. I’ve placed two other controllers in the circuit and they work just fine.

I’m outside of the Amazon return window, so I contacted Renogy. They refuse to support the product and keep telling me to return to Amazon (despite having told them I’m outside of the return window).

I may as well go for the cheap knock offs instead. I won’t be out full price.

This controller is easy to set up, easy to use, and very efficient. The display screens are well organized, easy to understand, and backlit nicely. The screen is easy to read when you look at it directly but loses definition when viewed at a slight angle. Overall a nice unit.

Was Not Able to Use it With the Optional Bluetooth Module

This controller works fine by itself, but the mounting location required me to add on the optional BT-2 bluetooth module so that I could control it with my Android smartphone. I was unable to login to Renogy using the DC Home phone app that would allow me to take control of the controller. This was in spite of me using the same Username and Password that would connect me to Renogy using my PC. The App gave me a "Reset Password" option, but it did not work either. The Renogy Chat feature said someone from Tech Support would contact me regarding this, but so far, no one has. I am returning the controller and the bluetooth module now, while the return window is open. In my opinion, it seems unnecessary to have to login to Renogy to be able to control the solar charge controller.

Keeps blowing the 20 amp fuse going to battery

Installed one week ago to keep battery charged up for using some led lights on my boat this should be an easy task for the set up. One week later I checked on it and found the battery fuse from charge controller to battery was popped. Installed another and popped instantly. Order another but feel I should have went in another direction. Will update in a few weeks. So far not very impressed.
Update, 6/14/22 looking in on the status of this charge control after 3 days of in service it looks promising as the battery is completely topped off and working as it should... I plan to update after 1 month to give it some real time in the real world. Also the new one was sent out and received literally the next day... Awesome!!!

I bought a cheaper controller that had added features such as 12v out. It was a generic brand with some other brands name on it. Granted they all do this as most components come from the same places. Unfortunately that controller failed even after a return for various reasons. I have been using and testing this controller off and on as a semi-portable/emergency backup combined with a renogy eclipse panel and renogy hybrid gel 100ah battery. Even in mediocre light I am seeing 3A+ and 17V+ charging the battery (nearly 1amp at around 45lat and 300pm in feb on the east side of a house through some trees). This says more about the panels than the controller but given they come from the same manufacturer it is relevant. The terminals are very well made which was one of the problems with the previous non-renogy unit. The controls are simple and work. It's mostly about QC not who made the components. I have had such a good experience Renogy is my go to now. Manufacturers you can trust have repeat customers. Its simple economics.

I have the 40A version of this as well and love it, but the footprint was too large. I use both in my offroad vehicles and the 40A just took up too much room. Swapped it put for this one. Only con I've found on this, is it constantly cycles through the monitoring screens, where as I like mine to stay on one specific screen.

I received this charge controller on May 10, 2021. Intent was to replace an existing charge controller with a new more efficient model that utilizes MPPT technology. I purchased the Renogy Rover Elite 20 amp model as it takes up a lot less room due to its compact size. The system is located on my camper trailer which is used for the summer season at a lake with no services . I set this up at home initially using the 12v system, made up of 2-85 amp/h batteries and two Coleman 100 watt noncrystalline panels, rated out voltage is 17 volts and 5.8 amp maximum output per panel. The set up was confusing and took a lot of time because the set up instructions are very confusing. I set it up for a flooded lead acid battery system. Everything seemed to work except for the amperage display from the panel to the battery. The maximum it has ever showed is 1.4 amps. It is obviously not displaying the maximum amps that the panels are capable of producing, about 11 amps. I tried contacting support for Canada on May 24, 2021 by emailing the Canadian address on the documentation but have not received anything from them. There is no telephone for support in Canada and I could not find any support on the US site that deals with this issue.
The other issued is with the digital display. It is only readable when looking directly at the display. In order to view it at any other angle requires the use of a flash light to read the display.

I have no confidence as to whether the system is charging normally. There is nothing that actually shows if the system is fully charged.
I think this is likely a good system but the absolute lack of technical support is the reason for my low rating.

After 8 months this unit completely failed be was able to return through amazon for a full refund & replaced with a victron bluesmart unit which i hope will last longer
