I am pleased with the odor control & longevity as bedding for my skinny pigs (basically hairless guinea pigs). The texture is great, too, as I was afraid it might be too rough for their skin & feet. The aroma is much less offensive than several other bedding types I've used in the past, particularly pine, & NO dust. I also used it in my chick brooder. It worked well but didn't last very long, although I did have more chicks than usual this year. After 2+ months I've only had to do one complete change of 3 cages for my skinnies with several "kitchen container" changes (I fill their kitchen container about 2" & the pan is 5'"x 8" roughly); the sows' cages are 28" x 56", & boar's is approx 24" x 36".
TOP Mfg: Thank you for offering this bedding alternative, but please consider price adjustment & bulk options as the market dictates?
UPDATE: I have changed my review above from a 3 star to a 5 star. Here's why: the company contacted me and apologized for the misunderstanding about the amount you receive. They then sent out enough to cover my whole coop, but that is NOT why I am changing to a 5 star review. The reasons for changing my review to 5 star are the apology itself, as most companies will never reach out to you to make things right and my chickens LOVE this product (even changed the title to reflect that). This is the FIRST material that they did NOT kick out of the coop and all over the yard. This material is also a dream for me because cleaning straw and other materials has been a pain. This shredded hemp is easy to clean. Each day, I go out with a cat litter scooper and scoop out the leavings. It has been about a week since it has been in the coop and there is still no ammonia smell from the chickens' waste. I would definitely buy this again and suggest it for all chicken keepers. Also, I have contacted bulk hemp hurd companies to purchase in bulk and have gotten no response. So, purchasing in bulk is not as easy as I had said previously. I would also like to add that RentACoop said they would be updating their listing to more accurately reflect how much coverage area their packages cover.
Some time after writing this review I was contacted by the company offering another pack of bedding at half price to try it again in hopes of giving them a better review. In reply, I say that my review was honest and I do not like being manipulated into giving a better review. Why would I buy another pack when I still have half left and know my girls don't like it?
