Editorial Reviews

Anime producer and distributor Right Stuf, Inc. and Nozomi Entertainment are pleased to announce the RENTAL MAGICA Part 2 DVD Collection will be released on April 6, 2010.

The Part 2 DVD Collection will offer the series remaining 12 episodes in both broadcast order, as seen on Japanese television (and on the Japanese DVD release), and chronological order, according to the timeline presented in the novels that served as the anime series inspiration. Additionally, the release will include a book that features well over 100 pages of background information about the series and its mythology. (These supplemental materials were originally included with the Japanese limited-edition DVD releases.)
Right Stuf and Nozomi s Rental Magica Part 1 DVD Collection is now available. In addition to the two viewing orders, it includes a 128-page book featuring cast interviews, a director s commentary, and background information about the mythology as it is presented in the series.

A supernatural action-adventure, Rental Magica is set in a world where magical organizations staffed by specialists wielding both Eastern and Western disciplines vie for work, prestige and power. Written by Makoto Sanda and illustrated by pako, the Rental Magica novel series currently spans more than 14 volumes and was named Best Action Story by Japanese fans as part of the 2007 Light Novel Awards. It has been serialized in Kadokawa Shoten s magazine The Sneaker since its 2004 debut, alongside the novels that inspired The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Trinity Blood anime series, as well as the official novelization of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Manga interpretations of Rental Magica also appear in the shoujo (girls ) anthology Asuka and the shounen (boys ) anthology Comp Ace.

Rental Magica s anime adaptation features direction by Itsuro Kawasaki (Sengoku Basara, Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE: The Movie), series composition by Mamiko Ikeda (Emma: A Victorian Romance), animation character design by Minako Shiba (.hack//SIGN, Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE), and animation production by ZEXCS (Chrome Shelled Regios, Mushi-Uta). Its vocal cast is led by Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Kimihiro Watanuki in xxxHOLiC, Lawrence in Spice and Wolf), Kana Ueda (Yumi in Maria Watches Over Us, Rin in Fate/stay night, Mikan in Gakuen Alice), Mikako Takahashi (Amy in Burst Angel, Ayumi Yamada in Honey and Clover, Gyokuyou in Coo ~ Our Guardian), and Junichi Suwabe (Archer in Fate/stay night, Greed in Fullmetal Alchemist, Fuuma in X TV). Visit rentalmagica.rightstuf.com for more information about Rental Magica, to view the trailer and to pre-order the two box sets.

With this box set my collection of this intriguing series is finally complete and while it was to short and hopefully more will come our way the series ending is a nice decent closure with not frustrating openness to it. Like the first box set the series has the final twelve episodes in either chronological order or broadcast order and if you don't have the first box set I do suggest getting it right away, the episodes will show us a more romantic connection growing between Itsuki Iba and Honami Takase Ambler as well as our third partner in this somewhat vague love triangle Adilicia Ren Mathers who is also after young Itsuki's heart. The set will also show us the guilt Honami has for Itsuki's condition because of a long ago mistake she made and her attempts to rectify that mistake which may cause a greater calamity than she suspects when she tries to enlist a young mysterious man from her past who has a history similar to Itsuki. The series comes in widescreen format with just the Japanese voice cast who were great in their roles, the animation and soundtrack as with the first part fits this series perfectly. The set comes in four dvds put in a pretty sturdy cardboard sleeve with the series characters on it, the set also comes with a paper book detailing the various spells and myths an the like from the series which is a nice touch. The dvd extras are pretty standard but for the enjoyment of the series worth it, so for any supernatural anime fans or fans looking for a great entertaining series here's a great one right here...

This series completely through me off guard. I had always wanted to purchase it but I usually don't like subs when often times the translation doesn't come across also I like the subtitles when I know that I will enjoy it. And , that I did! A mix of magic and friendships. I had loads of fun watching it. I think it is worth the money and that you won't be disappointed with the Japanese cast or translation.

Anime was good but didn't want to buy in Japanese and Amazon had it as dubbed in "English". So if you buy it prepare to be disappointed
