Different product with same specs?

Reducing to 1 star because it stopped working in Windows 7 and Linux after a short amount of use, and I could never get it working again.

Original review:

The product I received does not look like the one shown in the seller images, nor does it resemble the one shown in the existing customer images. It came in a retail box with an eForCity sticker on it, but the product inside appears different: It is a one inch cable with a male USB connector on one end and a PSX controller port connector on the other. There is no box in the middle of the cable like the one shown in the images.

My guess is that the seller is doing one or more of the following:
- selling multiple different devices under this listing
- selling different revisions of the same item from the manufacturer or primary vendor
- posting images that are for a different item with similar specifications

Fortunately, the item works as advertised. In fact, the retail box specifically claims driverless PC support. I am currently using it with a laptop running Windows 7 x64 and it works fine with a first-party (Sony) PS1 dual shock controller.

With the "ANALOG" light on, the left stick shows up as an analog X/Y axis, while the right stick shows up as Z axis/rotation. The D-pad shows up as a POV hat, and 12 buttons are registered (in order: triangle, circle, X, square, L2, R2, L1, R1, select, start, L3, R3. The dead zone on the sticks seems reasonable.

With the "ANALOG" light off, the analog sticks do nothing (except for L3 and R3) while the D-pad maps to the X/Y axis.

I am happy with my purchase. For less than $5 I am able to use one of my many spare PS1 controllers for PC gaming, which is great because PS1 controller D-pads are superior to those of any PC gamepad that I've seen.

I am not a PC gamer really, I was using this for another purpose, which was to make a Guitar Hero controller into a musical instrument. I wanted to use the controller for keyboard input. You push this button, and it sends a typed key. Being new to game controllers etc. I was a little confused at first. I didn't know you need mapping software to map the input to keys. Apparently it works like an analog joystick. Once I got the software, and mapped it I have some issues, but I don't think they are related to this device, because I tested all the inputs and they works. It would be nice if there were more documentation, and a clearer description like PS2 TO Ps3 Windows USB Joystick etc. But it works, and I don't see any significant latency issues that would be a problem with a musical instrument. I am going to use the controller as a sort of bass guitar (some nerd bands do this). I haven't looked into using the joystick input into my MAX/MSP software, it might be possible to do that.

Of course, after seeing numerous positive reviews about this product, let alone the price I said why not. At first I was in decision between this adapter or the PS PS2 USB Dual Controller to PC Adapter Converter , so therefore I got this one because of the intended PlayStation 3 support. As of now I have not tested it for the PlayStation 3 because it is now YLOD, but according to many reviewers, it has support for full vibration and "possibly" the analog button as the "Home" button for the XMB, but no support for 2 or more of these adapters on the PlayStation 3 at the same time. Meanwhile the other blue PS PS2 USB Dual Controller to PC Adapter Converter adapter, its intended purpose is for the PC with full plug and play support and vibration (CD driver installation required for vibration) all that while having support for the PlayStation 3 (no vibration nor Home button). So it was a trade off between vibration or not, or dual adapter input or not. But heck, for the price on both... buy both.

The adapter truly revives your stored DualShock 2 for PC use. It does have some sort of flimsy build between the wire and the center module but not bad at all. Since I have not owned dedicated PC "game pads" like Logitech or Madcatz, they all have to somehow fail according to many users here simply because of the lack of quality build. It is obvious that a mass produced and high standard controller such as the DualShock 2 for millions of users have to be built like a tank and surely it does. Now my DualShock 2's are not new, they have been pounded for years and the best way to test their accurate joystick potentiometers "pots" is by buying these adapters and testing them by calibrating under Windows settings and wow, I intentionally snap them in all angles, spring them and they all fall back to super accurate 128 X-axis and 128 Y-axis stats by ticking the raw data option, because there's nothing more annoying than sticky joysticks, unintentional player movement and flight simulator struggles and yes, my controllers sticks have center wobble and keep the perfect 128x128. I'll put some images. Just get the adapter, nothing to lose for the price.

Great on PC Not on PS3

This product works well but it doesn't work on PS3. The title of this product is extremely misleading you cannot use this to use your PS2 controller on PS3. You can however use it on your PC so if that's what your looking for then great but something needs to be done about the title of this product.

I've only tried it with one game so far, so I can't say it's perfect for all games converting over to the PS3. It does, however, worked as mentioned. I was able to use a third-party controller on the playstation 3 but the circle button would randomly press during the menu screens. Also, the male PS2 connector side fits tight into the PS2 controller's female port. Must use a little force. Overall, for the money is good.
